I agree, and I hate to sound like someone who drinks the koolaid, but I'm sold.
I've talked to Jim on the phone too (the Reed James Custom builder), and will likely talk to him a great deal more in the future (I have some telewoodys coming, and then my strat needs a set). He's proud of his prouduct, as well he should be. He's onto something that nobody else is doing, all the other pickups I've seen that are wood are just a laminate on plastic. He wins the award for "Best Looking" pickups IMHO.
But, looks be darned! Sound is whats important. I would've sent them back if they didnt hold up. Mine sound so good that I'm going to be outfitting all my guitars with them.
And if the wood isnt effecting the tone, then something else is, and in a very good way. I'll be building a Warmoth around this set eventually. The Epi LP Custom is just a "place holder" for now... Hmm... I'm thinkng a Padouk topped LPS....
