what does changing of string guage require, ie from 10 to 9?

i know a "setup" - but appreciate more specific information. thanks.

May or may not require a truss rod adjustment..  If it is on a guitar with a floating trem system, it may require a spring adjustment as well.

If you go up in gage size you may have to widen the slots on the nut, depending on how they were originally cut.

If you're using standard sets, you probably won't see any great differentiation between typical .010 and .009 sets nor should you need to do any setup work. I normally use .009s, but sometimes buy .010 sets on sale and use them on the same guitars

going up higher though (11s or 12s) you'll definately need to adjust the truss rod, set intonation, widen the nut slots, etc.

Jack is right - I usually use 10s but like an 11 once in a while, it really is not a major deal to go up or down one.

I agree with all that has been said about changing just one guage... UNLESS you are going from, for example, a 10 set with an unwound G to an 11 set with a wound G. Then you will want to check intonation on that string and make sure your pickups are still balanced.

I guess not too many people are throwing 'wound G' string sets on their standard guitars, but still worth mentioning.
