Chambered Mahogany Tele / Tonar finish

Body: Chambered Mahogany, flame maple top. From the screamin deals section almost nine months ago.
Neck: bonus birdseye / kingwood, clay dots, SRV, 6130. Also screamin deals. I bought the neck and body not quite knowing how the project would end up, and I think this neck is visually a poor match for the body. Plays really great, though.
Finish: Red MEK dye on the body, then Tonar saved my bacon. Neck is just Satin wipe on poly from minwax. Easy and smooth. The "matching" peghead veneer is going to disappear at the first string change I promise. Again, sometimes you never know how things will turn out till you try.
Hardware is Gotoh locking vintage tuners, Gotoh bridge that's been on three different guitars already.
Bill Lawrence "Keystone" SC pickups, 5-way super switch that adds in series / in phase & in series / out of phase options. Volume, tone, .022 cap for now. I like these pickups, they have their thing going on, but I'm going to demo a couple other candidates for the job too, maybe do some recording along the way.

Really good, I still need to dial in the setup though. I usually take some time do that, let it play in and eventually get the nut to just the right spot. I'm thinking to try .011 pure nickels with this lady, just seems like the right thing to do, that will affect the sound a lot. I like these pups much better in this guitar than I did in the baritone tele, the neck is especially nice, and the neck pup couldn't handle the lows on the baritone at all. I'm tempted to try the roadhouse set or go with Tonar's rec and do SD Jerry Donahue / five-two, but for now I like these.
I was going to say the series + out of phase position is really cool, sounds just like an auto wah, I was jamming on it for a while. Then I looked down and the auto-wah on my multi effects was on........

Classic :icon_biggrin: I've done the same thing with the tone switch on my Swede - "hmm, sure sounds middy today... oh, duh!"

The guitar looks so sweet. Love that colour.

The more I look at this, the more I like it. My only complaint is that the body wood looks too light compared to the top.
But yeah, i don't know anything about finishes - could you detail the process you did for this?

I made a mistake on the neck pickup.  It is a Duncan 54 in the neck and a Jerry Donahue in the bridge.  I'm getting ready to put a set in the On Fire Flame Tele and I have heard them in three other Tele's I have painted and they sound real good.  But thre are many other great pickup out there now.

Nice guitar.  :icon_thumright:
