hi There,

Is there any difference between a Std strat neck and CBS besides the shape of the head stock?

Thanks,

Andrew

It's mostly cosmetic.  Obviously the CBS will have slightly more mass to it because of the added wood.
Personally I hate the looks of CBS, but clearly that's a widely varying opinion amongst players

So to answer your question: Not a whole lot.

Warmoth's of Fender's?

If Warmoth's then no.  If Fender's then it depends what years.  The CBS headstock later got a bullet truss rod adjustment, 3-bolt neck joint, and skunk stripe on all necks.

Superlizard is just kidding, you gotta get to know him. No one likes the CBS headstock  :laughing7:

Jimi Hendrix played CBS headstock Strats almost exclusively, the added headstock mass was a contributing factor to his tone.

*I* believe those were the model being made and given to him at that point in time.  Anything in Jimi's hand was going to sound like Jimi.  When I saw him live, and he used both.  You may be correct regarding his preference (and how much difference it may make - but I've seen enough photos to indicate the man would have been happy with anything in his hands......or behind his back, or in his teeth, or between his legs, or over his head, or...  :laughing7:

inside sources tell me Jimi even had a les paul. i've only seen him with strats and a vee but my old highschool principle claims he sold jimi a LP back in the 60's. he also claims to have played in a band with one of the members of the new york dolls, but none of this is varified. he does however have pics of himself in some old music magazines but i cant remember the name of his old band

ill have to ask ol' Mr. Quatroce what color it was and see if there is any photografic evidence of his claims.

Jimi was seen playing a Jazzmaster during his stint with the Isley Brothers.  He was probably less of a gear head or tone hound than we give him credit for.  In the late 60s, there was no such thing as a Vintage Guitar market, let alone Vintage Fenders.  If he played the CBS Headstocked Strats, it's because that's what was available anywhere and everywhere.  There was a story of him in the military, his band would have to get his guitar out of hock before every show.

Don't listen to this dude - he voted for Obama.  :icon_jokercolor:

Some say the CBS headstock carries the curse of Leo.  Or, it automatically enrolls you in some sort of record club... I dunno.

Perhaps, on a chambered body with a lightweight trem, it might cause a bit of neck dive... thats about all I can think of.

Wait, one more thing, the added mass of the headstock, better for sustain (by an infinitesimal amount).

Wait, another one more thing, the CBS headstock makes a better canoe paddle (given the choice of CBS/non-CBS).

Ok thats it.

Dangit, thought of another.  The decal.  The CBS decal is mo'harder to find if you want that sort of thing.

Ok, thats really it this time.

I hope....
