case for mooncaster? - pictures added

Can anyone recommend a case for the mooncaster?  Need to pick up one for a Christmas gift.

The Mooncaster is a Fender Starcaster clone, so you'd think there'd be cases specifically for them, but no. At least, not new ones. If you search around the interwebs, you'lI see more than one recommendation for a Silver Creek Vintage Archtop Hollowbody Guitar Case. As it happens, I have one here for a Mooncaster I'm putting together, and while it's a nice enough case, the guitar basically swims in it. Plus, it doesn't lay flat because the neck support closer to the heel is way too tall. So, we're gonna have to make some changes of some sort as this lovely is going to have to travel just about as far from here is it could go without leaving the planet.

If you look at the second from the last post in this thread, there are a couple pictures of a Starcaster in two different cases (one for a Gibson Lucille, and another for a Yamaha SA-1000) that look to be much more suitable. Good luck finding the Yamaha case, and I suspect he's wrong about the Gibson case being for a "Lucille" (ES 355). Those are roughly the same size as 335s, which are bigger guitars.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but at least we're narrowing things down. Eventually, somebody's gonna find just the right thing, as I don't think Warmoth is going to give up on Mooncasters any time soon.

I had a friend who had one of these cases though, well worth the money to protect your investment.

Seeing as how there's no VAT collected in the US, that would make the price a VERY attractive $178! I mean, I've paid $150 for cases that don't look HALF that sturdy.

Pity Fender doesn't offer a HSC as the did with the original Starcaster:

Even if you could turn one of these up (highly unlikely, I suppose), you'd have to try it to see if it would fit the Mooncaster.

I was just trolling the offset guitar forum and apparently the Epiphone 335/Casino case works with the starcaster re-issues:

thanks all - I ordered a gator and a roadrunner case for archtop guitars and we'll see how they fit - will follow up with a photo or two if I can figure that out.

the original fender case looks like they did some creative padding at the bottom - maybe I could do something similar with a 335 case and a visit to the fabric store? 

that flight case also looks interesting - does anyone know if the mooncaster has exact same dimensions as a starcaster?  Also the one we're making uses a Warmoth 3 x 3 headstock.

we'll see where these cases get me and go from there.

If you can lift out the foam it cuts like butter with an electric knife or a good, sharp fillet knife. You could modify the headstock area to allow your 3x3 one to go in there.

I was thinking the same thing. I modified two camera cases that way, worked out wonderfully.

mooncaster in a road runner archtop guitar case.  neither of the two are a perfect fit but this one is close - will need a pad under the body tolevel the neck and a crescent shaped pad at the botton - seems do-able

I hadn't seen the 335 version of that case, only the Strat/Tele and the SG types. Looks like it would do nicely, although I don't know the dimensions of a Mooncaster body or the overall length.
