Dunno how much impact this will really have on our little coterie of guitar geeks, but for those who care, I see that Carvin has its licensed Floyd Rose 7-string units on closeout.  I believe (but don't quote me) that these are a Gotoh unit stamped with the Carvin logo:

$69 in chrome, left- or right-handed; black and gold at $79, lefty or righty.

Yep, but for some lucky winner, this is possible -

Build a one-pup 7-string body for 175 bucks in poplar.

Pick up this neck for 160 bucks, plus 20 more for the stainless frets (duh):

and the Carvin Floyd at $79 in black, since it's a seven string, and, y'know, METAL.

Grab a Roadhouse 7-string pup at $85

Other miscellaneous hardware incl. locking tuners to the tune of about 120 bucks, depending on wiring components.

Finish in a solid Duplicolor shade to complement the purpleheart neck  and you are out the door for about $700.  Not exactly a cheap guitar, but a damned reasonably priced one for what you'll get.

Of course you'll be stuck with a seven-stringer, but hey, who doesn't like to make that GUNK-GUNK-GUNK-GUNK noise with the mids all scooped out once in a while?

Sounds like a good plan. I have enough trouble with six strings, though.
