Carved top soloist???

I noticed on the Warmoth body builder there is no longer an option to select "Carved Top" when choosing a soloist body. It was missing a few days before the new site went live, so I don't think it's anything to do with that. Anyone heard what the dealio is with the carved tops (I know they were doing some prototype stuff recently)?

I just noticed that myself. I hope they're not gone forever. They were pretty pricey, and I'm sure they didn't sell many of them because of that, but boy they were nice. I was hoping to get one someday.

They've had prototype/concept versions of a new carved top Soloist go up on the showcase every so often for months. I'd bet they have taken the old pages down in preparation for the new version.

It disappeared the same time the double laminate tops became mandatory.  No more masked bindings for carved tops I guess

It would be a real shame if the carved top soloist were gone forever. I have one planned for a future build. At the very least, we should be able to custom order one.

Correct. Updates needed to be done to the builder and pages with photos/options/prices. Until then, please call if you would like to order one.

It's still there. Just scroll down, er right on the body builder page.

The site is looking good with all the changes, thus far. Keep up the great work.

The Carved Top Soloist has been redesigned and is only available in the In-Stock Showcase for the time being.

Forgot to ask - is what's in the showcase the last remaining inventory prior to a relaunch of the newer style?  Any hints as to what is changing?

What's available in the Showcase is the new style. The old style is gone. None left.

The new style likely will never be available in the Builder of the current site. Warmoth is in the midst of designing a new website, and many newer offerings won't be fully fleshed out until they appear on the new site. And before you ask - it's a massive undertaking and I make no predictions on time frame for the new site. There is still so much work to be done that I can't fully wrap my brain around it. Most nights I lay in bed and cry until my heart attacks put me to sleep.  :binkybaby:

So ... late March?  :icon_jokercolor:

I surmise what's different is that the tops are now a double laminate of for example a plain piece of maple overlaid with a thinner piece of figured maple. This would mean you can make maybe two tops from the same figured maple as previously one would have taken.

I assume also that natural masked binding would no longer be an option as binding is used to mask the transition.

Double laminate tops are the norm for years, if I'm correct from 2009. The new carved tops in Soloist and Telecasters (maybe other bodies too) have less carving.

It may be an effort to reduce material waste & extend the billets into lam tops that will go further.

A 3/4" carve top blank can yield 6 1/8" lam tops if sheared, maybe 4 if cut with a saw.

The carve top all gets cut without any of its excess material finding usage elsewhere.
