I've never personally cared for trem cover plates either, but I I like the look of the material itself - it almost looks like industrial tweed and I think it works surprisingly well with the 3-tone burst. I think it'd make a really great looking pickguard.
It's too modern for a Strat. It would be much better on a soloist. The pickguard idea is cool too, but again on a more modern guitar like a V2 or something.
I don't think it looks better with a solid finish than a burst, but I do not think it looks good at all on the white. I do think it would look very cool on a black finish or "smoke" finish.
I think with the right finish, it would look awesome. I like the carbon fiber. Hell, I have a bike made out of the stuff. :icon_biggrin:
Personally I think both would look really good on either guitar. The backplate on the strat isn't something I would see from the crowd while you're rocking the [expletive deleted] out, so I say do it if you want to. I am partial to no backplate as well, but that's not a feel thing so much as an I-don't-take-care-of-my-paint-jobs thing.

Won't be installing cf on the front of this guitar, keeping the classic look, but if i have the time maybe I can cut a pick guard IF only they have a large enough leftover. (they'd kill me if I 'steal' from their stock) haha.
