Canary Fret Boards & Finish

Probably a dumb question but do canary fretboards need finish? I know the necks can be played raw but I'm not 100% sure about the fretboards. If left raw do they get difficult to clean/condition?

They certainly don't need a finish. I've only had a canary neck, not a fingerboard, but I'd say care and cleaning would be similar to rosewood.

I'm on my second Canary neck, both have had the same wood as the fretboard.  On this one I decided to try a pure Tung Oil and wax finish because the neck looked and felt terribly dry.  It really made the colors in the grain pop beautifully.  Really nice feel to it, but there is a considerable time delay in letting the Tung oil 'cure'.

I was wondering how I missed this thread, then looking at the date I realized I spent my summer vacation in the hospital... :sad1:

Anyway, I've done a few Canary necks and have never felt any need to put any finish on them. The one I documented the most was this one I put on the pseudo L5S in my sig. Lotta pics, if you wanna see what that kind of fretboard looks like without anything but burnishing and EVO frets.
