Cagey's First Tele

Street Avenger said:
Congratulations.
I'm jealous. Mostly because I haven't ordered mine yet. I have never owned a Tele, and I now want to build one.

I've never wanted one. In fact, I was quite sure I never would. But, since joining this group, I've learned the error of my ways. Teles are guitars, too, and should be treated as such.

Excellent! always good to see another telecaster in the world.

How much did you pay for that again???

It was either $2.18 or $285, I don't remember which. Doesn't matter. The voices in my head said "acquire at any cost, crew expendable".

that is funny, I had actually been looking at that Tele last night  :-\ Granted I have enough irons in the fire right now anyway.

Yeah, why do I doubt the twanginess of this guitar - something about the heavily overwound ceramic mag humbucker in the bridge...hmmmm.

Country it up, you crazy twanginator! Soon you'll be showing it off over at tdpri and jonesing for a '52 copy with really, really noisy and microphonic pickups and a massive neck.

Nice score cagey  :icon_scratch: wondered where that went !!

WOW that neck goes really well with Bagman's body ...........
You should just give it to him for a spare.  :laughing7:

I've found that regardless of the number of 50 cent adjectives and the volume of hyperbole used to describe a pickup, you never know what something is going to sound like until you install it. So, hope is all you have. Sometimes you get lucky. More often, you're left wanting.

So very true.

Just a follow-up...

I got the body and some various pieces/parts yesterday, but one of my brothers was over exhorting me to build it up now, Now, NOW! because he wanted to watch. Pervert.

So, I didn't take "Just Out of the Box" pics, or even "Work in Progress" pics, but I did as much as I could before succumbing to the call of the beer chest...

Ain't she purty? All her fingers and toes. I think I'll name her "Gertrude", but I'll call her "Bitch" for short. She's a dirty girl. You can't even look at this one without compromising the finish. She already has dozens of hairline scratches and millions of fingerprints.

Lookin good Cagey, what was you pickup combo?

It's a Seymour Duncan SH-4 "JB" at the bridge position, and a GFS "TRU-COIL" at the neck. I may be sorry as they're both fairly "hot" winds, but we'll find out. I may end up very pleased. You never know until you crank 'er up. Besides, you can always turn a hot pickup down, but you can't turn a wimpy one up.

Hello Cagey,

well your "Gertrude" looks really beautiful. Sorry for all the already existing scatches and fingerprints, but that's what black does. It looks great, but you always gotta keep it clean.
Have fun being busy doing that..... :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

Bye  JULIA

No need to apologize, and it certainly didn't come that way from Warmoth. It was perfect out of the box. But, it is as you say - one of the downfalls of having a gloss black finish. Any handling whatsoever leaves evidence.

Thanks, all. I still need to wire it, and the frets need some attention. But, I should have it strung up in the next couple days. Then we'll find out if I need to buy more pickups or not.

She's a beauty, for sure.  Black does show the fingerprints, yes, but she begs to be handled, so might as well just get used to it...

peace

Bagman

Looks great Cagey  :icon_thumright:

Back in Black  :icon_biggrin: ........ I think I know who ya name it after  :laughing7:

A fine looking build, sir. The Bitch will age with character scratches and the like but I will always remember her as she appears now...A BEAUTY!
