anyone know much about this wood?  I have a line on getting a piece for a custom build...

I considered a Redwood Burl top, but the wood is VERY soft.
I've turned two pens with it, one fell apart on me, and one came out on the thin side after sanding.

Very nice looking wood though. It's known to be very chatoyant, and I love that quality in woods. :icon_biggrin:
 
Actually, come to think of it, the Burl tends not to be as chatoyant as figured Redwood.

Here is an amazing Redwood Burl bass that Rod from Regenerate Guitar Works did.

FINALLY found the word to describe the 'wet look' and the 3D effect of the wood grain!  :toothy12:
