Im looking to figure out how to mod my bugera 6262. I can not find the footswitch anywhere and when I do it's expensive. Im toying around with the idea of modding the head to accept a regular footswitch and not the 5 pin connector. Does anybody have any leads on how to do this? Also I prefer using the crunch channel and not the lead channel, so Im thinking of putting some really low gain tubes in the lead channel and just really dulling it down to get a super clean tone. So I would be using the crunch channel for leads and the lead channel for cleans. any ideas or tips?

@Mods: can we move this to the Amps & Pedals section?

@OP: I don't have specifics on the footswitch since I only used the one that mine came with. I did swap the original 12AX7s for some "lower gain" ECC83's. I got them from The Tube Store as a set, and put in a set of matched power tubes at the same time. TBH, the swap to the ECC83's didn't make as much of a difference as I thought it would, and I wound up putting the12AX7s back in because I thought they had more top end clarity than the ECC's did.

The big difference was new power tubes. It's been a while (4 amps ago), so I don't recall which brand I swapped in but that made a far bigger difference to the overall tone. If I remember right, the set I got were Sovtek's but don't hold me to that. As always YMMV.

What I found was that if I pulled back on the gain, kept the Lead button off, and pulled back on the midrange, I got what I wanted. Right on the edge of breakup with a good top end but not too much compression, and then still would grind if I pushed the guitar volume up.

HTH.

Right on. So tubes would do that much? If I could just find a footswitch or mod to have a button for crunch to clean, it would be perfect. I prefer the crunch over the lead any day. The lead is too harsh and I don't know how to tame it.

Yep, that's one of the reasons I moved it on. The Lead channel was great for the chugga-chugga, but unmanageable for anything else. I found that using the Clean channel I could get where I wanted to go. I also found that keeping the gain down and putting a booster (not OD or distortion) on the board sounded great. I wound up not ever changing from the Clean channel.

In the end, the wattage/volume was too much to handle in the clubs we're playing, and with the weight and size, it was just too much.

Be patient and try to find the footswitch on Reverb or eBay. These amps are not designed to be modded to change the footswitch controls. As for the preamp tubes ECC83 and 12AX7 are almost identical. Look at Eurotubes.com website. There you will find several options for both the preamp and power tubes. The way to decrease the gain is to put 5751 preamp tubes in positions V2, V3 and V4. Eurotubes sells JJ brand tubes. 5751 has about 70% of the gain of a 12AX7. At $21 per tube it it not a big investment.
