I see the future and have xray vision , wait.. no I was talking about my order  :occasion14:

Man! you had me goin'!

The only thing I like as much as me getting my order is you guys (and girl, Hanna) getting yours!!!!  :toothy10:

I'm yet to paint with it but my new spray gun arrived last week, a DeVilbiss SRi Pro, which is a touchup gun with a 1.0mm tip, certainlly not a cheap option, but I dont buy cheap tools.

I'm in the same situation as you in that I wanted to have a crack at painting it myself rather than just assembling a parts guitar, but the 1st body will end up costing several times more than a Warmoth finnish because I have to buy everything.

That is cool though, -it always costs a bit on the front end to get started on anything, but once ya got the tools of the trade, it'll pay for itself in the long run... -not only in dollars (or euros or whatever one's currency happens to be), but level of satisfaction from DYI  :hello2:

Thanks for sharing about taking the plunge!

UPS tracking status: "Out for delivery today"

I'm gonna hafta get serious about researching DYI finishing cuz those parts aren't gonna just sit in the boxes and wait forever  :laughing7:

Arrived... but the neck just barely! Someone at UPS must have had a bad day; the box the neck was in was nearly demolished! -But the neck escaped nearly unscathed; one very small dent in the back edge of the headstock on that corner by the low-E tuner... I may be able to steam it out. We'll see.

Now, for the almost first-ever DIY finish project for me. I say almost because when I was a kid, -er... young man (-sorry, Altar) of around 14 years, I had a J.B. Player strat copy and a mexi-squire tele that got stripped down and "refinished" with everything from interior latex to tester's paint pen markers... and lots of stickers.

My first build was that mexi-tele neck on a nude ash Warmoth body that got one coat of clear minwax satin poly... and sold nearly immediately to another young man who thought that was his last chance ever to have a "custom-built" ax.

But this time, I'm serious, and plan to really give this wood-finishing thing a real go, so...

Young man?

More like baby monster. :toothy12:

Dude, -I'm sure glad ya can roll with the age (or lack of it) comments. -Please know that I, for one, mean nothin' by any of it. I totally take your posts seriously and enjoy your input. -Hell, I trained my son how to string, set-up, and adjust intonation at like nine or ten years old, and now he (now 19) shows me little tricks. The years matter less than the amount of passion and focus there is to devote to the craft. (-And then there is natural talent... but that is a whole other fatherly lecture.)

As older guys, it's hard-wired into our nature to give the next generation a hard time. Please forgive us, it seems we can't help ourselves.

It's not a problem at all, and thanks. I think what really maters, though, is that at the age of 14 I am learning so much from you guys. And Now that I'm diving in headfirst, I know so much. I realized yesterday that while I was installing klusons for the first time, it took me five minutes and the result was perfect. Having barely wired anything complex before, I already have the jag's wiring diagrams in my head. I can do so many things now thanks to merely listening to folks with more experience than I. I just hope that someday I can be the same resource for others as you all have been for me.

So never any hard feelings. I know teenagers suck, of all people, I would know.

Thanks!

Actually, they are pretty friggin' cool. -Of all people, I would know; I used to be one, and I've got a few livin' in my house right now, so...

In a lot of cases, old guys givin' you a hard time is just them really wishin' they hadn't over-looked the awesomeness of being young with the whole world out there in front of them, and they're envious of where you're at in life. The rest of the time, it's probably whipper-snapper twenty-somethings that want to flaunt the pinch of pup-shiz they've learned so far, and don't know how to besides trying to rub your nose in it. (Did I mention I got one of those home from college for the summer, too? -what a circus!)

The world is your oyster, man! You are where everyone wants to be. -Make the most of it!  :rock-on:

(Later that same month...)
-I feel like such a heel! -Got started with finish endeavors, one thing led to another, and... :dontknow:

Anyways, I sort of finished this one up. Without moving to work in progress. Without taking pictures of the progress (-or the crazy "Oh-crap!-I-think-I-just-F'd-this-thing-up!" moments). So, I will have to move this one straight to the finished project gallery. As soon as I can put the thing down and stop playing it to take a few pics and beat out a little something about how first-time DIY finishing went for me.
