Body weight Padouk

On my next Strat build I am thinking of going with Padouk core wood and Indian Rosewood top.
Should I be concerned that it might be on the heavy side?

I would appreciate any advice.
The last thing I want is an 8+ pound Strat.
Thanks!

I would be concerned. Look to the wood database. The density of both is high.

A hint get the off menu extra light, then chamber it. The W seems to chamber heavy blanks for the Showcase to get the reasonable. Selecting off showcase with the off menu option of LW then choose to chamber is the easiest way to not end up with a heavy body.

I'll weigh mine tonight and report back... it's a 2-piece solid padauk body, not the usual straight grain seen on W necks/boards but almost burl in some areas, maybe that affects the weight or not but it's about as heavy as my maple-bodied W strat.

I had not thought of that!!
Thank you.
Oddly there was not any Padouk available when I went to the custom body build this afternoon.

I don't think it's a wood they offer for bodies often enough to add it into the builder. Mine was a showcase buy many many years ago.

So, I can't weigh just the body because it's a full-build baritone, but we're at 9lbs 4.5oz (I think that was nearly my birth weight ).

However, just checking my archives and found the original listing (circa late 2006), Warmoth listed the body as 5lbs 10oz...

Happy to help! After finish it went dark and looks kinda like brown tortoise shell (I'd hoped to keep it as close to raw look as possible but I still love it)
