Oh man, that pinstripe really ties the room together.

You're out of your element!
Nice build! Love the contrast with the gold. Fapworthy, indeed, good sir. :icon_thumright:

I totally adore that wood! Fabulous!* Locking tuners and a locking nut?

Thanks, it looks even better in person.

Really, there is nothing wrong with locking tuners in this application, as it makes changing strings a bit quicker.  Just pull through, tighten and cut, as opposed to forming 3 to 5 wraps around the tuner first.

I made a few changes to this build today.  I thought it had a bit too much gold hardware, so I swapped out the pickup rings and the locking nut for black.  I also changed the pickups.  Bridge to neck:  DiMarzio Steve's Special, Fast Track 1, and Air Norton S.  Finally, I added two mini toggle switches.  One of them turns on the neck pickup regardless of the position of the 5-way switch (Thanks Alfgang for posting the concept!  Wiring here:  http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/the-seven-sound-stratocaster-1)  The second mini switch is a "master coil tap" for the bridge and neck pickups.  What I really wanted out of the two switches was to get one of the neck coils and one of the bridge coils together.  That combo sounds great, to me.  It also has given me a number of other tonal variations.

I also named it "Bloody Mary."  I'm asking DangerousR6 for a new neckplace with the name.  Once I get that, I'll put up a picture of the back.  The neckplate is the only reason for a picture of the back of the guitar, right?  :laughing7:

YES!! The black actually looks classier than the gold...and that pinstripe is just FANTASTIC! Amazing what one little contrasting line can do to the overall picture, eh? Nice choices!

@Great Ape:  Thank you!  I agree.  I totally love that pinstripe.  By the way, this body was in the Showcase when I bought it. Fernando had actually posted it on the board, which brought it to my attention. So Warmoth had done the pinstripe on their own, unless this was a custom order that fell apart at the final sale and it ended up in the Showcase.

@Surf n Music:  Thanks, bro!  You rock!

Hey Doc. Really nice. I have to agree that it's got enough black now to make the contrasting pieces of gold really stand out.

What do you think of the Steve's Special? I've got one sitting here waiting to go into my next Strat.

Thank you, MikeW.  Your comment highlights exactly the effect I was going for.

Regarding the Steve's Special, it really is an underrated pickup, I think. I've had it for a while and it has circulated through a couple of other guitars that were alder.  It sounded pretty good in those, but it really seems to like the mahogany. It is hard to describe it, but I think DiMarzio's website description is pretty accurate.  It sounds hot when you fire up the gain on the amp, but still maintains the articulation of the individual strings when playing chords. But if you dial back on the gain, it kind of does have that "3-D" sound DiMarzio describes. It sound pretty good clean, as well.

Very classy! The black and gold hardware work surprisingly well together.

Thank you, Balltongue. Floyd Rose and Planet Waves gave me the idea. You'll note the fine tuners on the Floyd and the center posts of the Planet Waves tuners are both black. The truss rod cover was black, and I just happened to have a black R4 nut in my parts bin. It looked good to me, so then I dug around and found the pickup rings in the bin, also.  Done!
