I found that a great vid.........7s to 38s, sheesh I'd shred those in a minute!  :o

Also got a bit happy as Gibbons uses the Demeter Iso Box - I have one of those, but mine is loaded with a Weber speaker. :icon_thumright:

"Fur guitars, everybody should have one right?" lol.... :laughing7:

Hey DbU, imagine the security at one of Billy's guitar lock ups! I bet they are manned by guys who make that guy from FPS Russia on You Tube look like a school kid.

Maybe this is what happens to trespassers on the lockup site in Texas....

Back OT, I noticed that what Billy would use as a backup or as a slide guitar, most of us would be happy with as our pride & joy. Also keen to lighten the load on his shoulders, by sending them off for chambering work. The prototype for the Gibson Pearly Gates Custom is a slide guitar!

I loved that, was really surprised with the 7-38's myself. I'm a huge Billy G Fan

Yeah, I'm sure I floss my teeth with a heavier gauge than 7s!  :laughing7:

No treble on the settings on the JMP1s of all things, and no mics on the stage boxes, lol. A little surprised Billy chooses the Marshall JMP1 Preamp as his main sound?  :dontknow:

I actually lol'ed at the "Prince Albert" can from yesteryear that houses the wireless on his strap. I mean, a "Prince Albert" is a piercing so something can be strapped right?  :o  :laughing7:

Doubtful that anything would be strapped to that.

The "Prince Albert in a can" is more of a joke than anything now.
The canned Prince Albert was a tobacco product, which would yield the joke as follows (usually by telephone to the merchant)
- Do you have Prince Albert in a can?
- Yes.
- Then you'd better let him out!

Similar joke is used with Olive Oil in a bottle (from Popeye)

Kinda like calling a bowling alley and asking them to page Mike Hunt.... :laughing8:

Or "Do you have 15lb balls, person says yes....How do you walk....?"

If ya had any sense, you'd take what Billy G. sez about his rig with the same grain of salt
that you would Edward Van Heusen - both are shifty as heck when it comes to what's
really going on behind their tone.  :icon_thumright:

The Reverend didn't sez anything about his tone set ups, his guitar tech did....Pay attention son...

Nah it was his tech showing Premier Guitar the backline gear & rig setup. I mean, it was there to see, and the tech switched on the settings etc. so you could see what Gibbons uses.... Pretty consistent line up as far as strings used, gauges and the settings on the preamps etc. By the looks of it, Gibbons - or his tech more likely - gets a graph reading of what Pearly Gates is like through that rig, then every guitar they bring in to the live show, they set the graph to match that template of Pearly Gates.

Also, when you think about it, the light strings, chambered instruments, smaller sized custom made replica Billy Bos and Iso Cabs instead of blaring speakers kinda hint at being 60+ years old and trying to do a heavy schedule of touring.....and keeping your health and hearing intact.

I am surprised as well that he uses JMP-1 preamps. They are not real tube amps. They have two tubes that are in the EQ section. There are no tube gain stages. Aside from the MIDI switchable presets, they are pretty much junk.

And I have never seen 007 gauge string sets anywhere, but I've read that Hendrix used them.

Billy is also famous for doing things that are tone killers.  Bolt on necks, low gauge strings, solid state amps, and Crate.  Maybe tone ain't in the gear?
GO BACK TO YOUR ROOM. WHO LET YOU OUT.

I'm sorry, guys. I don't know how he gets out sometimes.

If you are paying attention, rather than salivating, the a priori purpose of that rack is to keep the volume level of a wide variety of guitars/pickups uniform.

If you're an old a fart as I, and and had seen them playing in clubs for $1.00 cover before Tres Hombres broke, he'd usually be playing through a Super Reverb or Dual Showman. Once they broke and started playing larger gigs (opening for the Stones in Texas during the 1972 Exile on Main St. tour and blowing them off the stage) the Marshall 100 watt stack x 3 rig showed up.

The sound/tone is all about the light touch/gauge strings, not the amplification....
