bigsby bridge tone

I love Bigsby trems, but I have heard mixed reports on them in regards to changing a guitars tone (for the worse, that is)
I am just wondering if this is true and if so why/can it be countered some how

I think they improve tone. To me, it's like people wanting a big sustain block on their strat trems. You've got a huge chunk of metal on the end of your strings.
