Hi Kids,
as you know, I gave up on amps some time ago. This was even after a stint making and selling my own designs (under the banner 'Mayfly'). This is mostly because in my current band the focus is on the vocals and the violin, with the guitar not needing to be the focus all the time. In addition to allowing me to take a break on stage every now and then, it also allowed me to completely switch to modeling amps, Fractal products in general. I'm liking the 'less crap to the gig' mentality.
With this rig, I was always pretty happy with a 'Trainwreck Liverpool' amp model. But you know, there was always something that I missed. Maybe something in the clarity, or lower mids, or well, something. But compared to the Mayfly amps that I made there was something a little lacking.
So I recently upgraded my firmware to the latest stuff, and as I was perusing what's available I found a model of a Marshall 18 watt clone. The "Blakenship Leeds" model to be precise. I gave it a try - and let me tell you this patch is the most like those old Mayfly amps that I ever heard. I love it! I'm putting a clean boost out front (just like I did with the Mayflys) and it sounds great. Those with an axeFX, please give it a try with the FET Boost with the drive on 9. That's the Mayfly tone right there!
