I have a new laptop and a Line 6 Bass Podxt that I can't get any sound out of. I've done all the right programming and connections, etc. that I need to do, but I can't get any sound out of it. I'd love to put up some samples of my new G4. Do you think I need a special kind of sound card or something? I have the Pod set up right for studio use. I've asked about this on the Line 6 forum, but I haven't gotten any answers.

+1 to what Blue said. Also give us some more info on what computer/os/music software you are using.

I've never used a pod, i'm a Boss GT guy so I dont know what it has for features.
But if you've got it, check out your output and input levels. Many times I"ve wondered why I had no sound because the tiny input knob tucked in the armpit of the device was turned down. or Wondered why i sounded like an active lapel microphone accidentaly taken into the mens room stall while it was turned all the way up.
