See this is all a bass player needs, 2 strings at most..All of these 5 and 6 string monstrosities are just nonsense.... :laughing11:

There's even some Danish royalty there ...
OK, I get it now. You only need two strings when you only play two notes.  :icon_jokercolor:

With four or five strings, you can play each note at a multitude of positions. With a more or less sensible choice of where you play each note, you can minimize movements of your left hand up or down the neck. With two strings you can still play all notes but you'll have to jump around a lot more. By building your bass line around the fact that you have just two strings you would get away with it without too many negative consequences. With a guitar where you play chords it would be a totally different story, but just look how many of the oriental stringed instruments that are played note by note have just two or three strings.

Bass is only there to compliment the drums and help drive the low end, so 2 notes are all that's needed... :icon_biggrin:

Sorry bass guys I'm just pickin'...and.... :icon_biggrin:

Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that POTUSA were big fans of Morphine (the band, not the drug).

In contrast to the majority of  other bands who are big fans of Morphine (the drug, not the band).

Exactly. So, how 'bout the real topic of this thread, eh?  :laughing7:

Just for fun, if one were to build a Warmoth 2 string bass:

- Could you order a bass neck without the holes predrilled in the head?
- What would be the best off-the-shelf bridge for it (i.e 4 string, 5 string, etc)?
- A custom nut seems appropriate but how would you determine the string spacing?
- What about pickups?  How would you deal with string/pole alignmnet?
