bass conversion neck

I would love to see a conversion neck to maker a 32" bass.  Don't know if it could be done but my small fingers would love it.

Yes!!!  + 1 all the way.  Or 30 1/2" like the Gibson SG bass!  I have me some tiny hands.

I know it's an unrealistic suggestion to say the least, but i would love to see a multiscale bass neck.  I am sure that it would require a custom nut and bridge design, but it would be cool.

If it was a fretless bass, I could see that work without too much difficulty. A lever in the side of the body would push the heel of the neck in or out and the fretless board would slide around on top without messing with intonation.

Ok, i see what you are talking about.
You were thinking of some kind of design where the neck could extend and retract to change the scale.

I was talking about basses like Dingwall's where the lower strings have a longer scale and the higher strings have a shorter scale.

I made a short-scale fretless out of Warmoth G5 parts. I had them make the neck without side dots, and relocate the pickup route 1.5" higher than normal. I put the bridge at 30.5" from the nut, and made my own side dots with an epoxy casting clay called Milliput:

It was easy, side dots are easier than making a nut or dressing frets.

It came out great - it's a "high-C" tuning, EADGC. AKA "tenor bass." I thought I might have to tune it up to F#BEAD to get enough string tension for good tone, but it's fine at normal pitch.

It's got 28 "frets" but strings that short don't sound so great - I did it to make chords lower down easier to reach.

Sorry to wander off topic, but hey Stubhead, i saw that bass a while back and i have been meaning to ask you...

I am very interested in doing a fretless Strat build next, but i am still on the fence about it.
Warmoth said they could do a fretless Strat neck no problem, but i would need to do my own side dots.
My luthier said that he will install side dots for me, but he doesn't have the time to measure them out for me, so i would have to measure them out myself first.

How did you measure out the side dot positions, and was it difficult?
