First build here and very excited to finally hear her, but I'm taking my time and moving slowly with the finish.

details:
Black Korina body oil finish
Ebony on Wenge neck unfinished with Bloody Basin Jasper dots
Gold custom trimmings

Had to dowel and re drill outside bridge plate holes a small bit. My bridge barely missed the mark on those two holes, so I whittled some hard oak to fill and re drilled.

Korina really is just the coolest, isn't it? Beautiful guitar, Rich!

Thumbs up. Nice grain in that one, too.

Fantastic combination.

Black Korina just looks wonderful and makes it so easy to get stunning looks from!

Looking good...

Thanks! The wood has made this a very pleasant project so far. Just looking at the changes it makes after each coat of oil. It really came to life after the first scuff and 3rd oil coat.
Here she is today enjoying the weather. 4th Coat.

After another coat or so, I'll move to linseed oil focus on sides and end grain, then finish with final tru oil.

Why linseed oil on top of tru-oil instead of simply additional tru-oil? You sure they're compatible? I don't know the answer to that, I'm just asking 'cause I've never heard of that before.

It's basically just for the sides and end grain. I'll "wet sand" with the linseed oil like seen here: https://youtu.be/VFT9kdJFkaI?t=12m44s

From my understanding, Tru oil is linseed oil with added polymers.

Tru oil does have linseed oil in it.

If you really want to wet sand with linseed for the sides it might be better to do a 50/50 mix with the tru oil itself. I'd also make sure to wipe off any excess and give it some more time to gas off.

For future reference this product is a sealer and filler designed for filling pores prior to using the tru oil itself. I've used it and it does the job.

All done. Here she is in all her 28 5/8" Baritone glory :) Set her up; now she sounds and plays as good as she looks!

Looks absolutely stunning!

You're gonna love spitting out the country & blues licks in baritone.  That stuff just oozes out of my Bari-Tele.

I really feel like the baritones shine with single coil voicing, especially for rhythm work, but I'm partial I guess.

You'll get a lot of great tones out of that beauty.

Congrats on a job well done! :eek:ccasion14:

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it, especially considering its my first real build. A few hurdles and lesson learnings along the way, but in the end - the tones make it all worth it! And she's easy on the eyes! Contemplating the next build already hahaha

Gorgeous! And that finish came out really well. I need to learn more about oil finishes.

Looks great! This one is a fine instrument. I think HSS is the best configuration for a baritone.

Really nice. The red stone dots are a nice touch too. Congratulations on that one.
