Hey all, for balancing a neck heavy guitar, there is a video on youtube where the guy suggests sticking lead weights which come as stickers to the back of the pickguard (facing the electronics within).

I found these on amazon :
https://www.amazon.com/VTR-Adhesive-Backed-Wheel-Weights/dp/B00ZMD8SDG?ref_=Oct_BSellerC_15706791_0&pf_rd_p=05d1af26-fc84-5308-ad83-54e59a0047ec&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-6&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=15706791&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=DD95QHDQGSG7N2XYJCQQ&pf_rd_r=DD95QHDQGSG7N2XYJCQQ&pf_rd_p=05d1af26-fc84-5308-ad83-54e59a0047ec

But they are "lead free" and made of steel. Would that be a problem for the electronics inside - causing interference etc?

I need it for my strat and tele - so there is no back routing etc. I would prefer to put it within the pickguard facing the electronics inside.

Appreciate the insights.

Options:
1) Swap the tuners for somthing lighter
2) Swap the tuner buttons, that can be up to 3 oz difference
3) Sueded strap
4) move strap buttons
5) only as a last resort would I put in more weight
As to whether the weights would work, I don't see why not, never got to the point.

I have these on my guitars :

not sure if the tuner buttons can be replace - or if they would make a difference.

I've always thought the strap was the best way to combat neck dive. Suede like suggested above has a little more friction and keeps it from happening. I would put weights in the body as a last resort, I don't need more weight strapped to my back.

I've cut up a handful of guitars installing weights, changing hardware, using different straps, etc., and came to the conclusion that moving the rear strap button to the location indicated in the photo below is the most effective way to combat neck dive on a solid-body guitar.

That re-positioning of the strap button looks like a better solution than adding weight.

I like the added comfort contour, too. All teles should have those as well as forearm contours.

At 5.6 oz that's pretty light, but maybe some research might reveal lighter ones ... anyway ...

It's a trade off on the putting more weight ...

My 7/8 Tele suffers from neck dive because of the very heavy bloodwood neck.
But there's an easy solution for all neck heavy guitars:
