Badass III Route and Hipshot Style A String-Through

Hi, I'm new here, building my first Warmoth bass. I built a nice black korina superstrat type a few years back, but I'm switching to bass now....

I want to use a Hipshot Style A bridge with string-through configuration. I was wondering if the Badass III route is compatible. I emailed Warmoth, and the rep couldn't tell me, said he didn't have one handy to compare.

Will this work?

Just by looking at them they have different configurations.

Badass 3 has 3 screws with the strings running between them

Hiphot A has 4 screws with strings behind them.

Are you sold on the string thru?  If so then I think the only Warmoth rout you could do (on a 4 string bass) is the 2Tek.  I've built several basses with the standard Fender 5-screw (Gotoh 201) routs.  I've used the Babicz FCH bridges to date, although I'm thinking they might have a bit of an intonation issue.  I'm trying a Hipshot KickAss on my newest.  They both use the standard Gotoh rout.

Although I don't think that Warmoth can rout for the string thru, Babicz does make a string thru option.  They use the Gotoh 201 screw routs.

KickAss does not have a string thru option that I know of:

If you're not married to a string-through bridge, The STRATosphere has the Hipshot Kickass for a damn sight less than Hipshot's own website -

$49 vs $85

Thanks for the replies, that gives me a lot to think about.  :turtle:

Forgetting string through, which doesn't really matter much to me, this Hipshot Style A description says:

"The Hipshot Brass A-Style Bass Bridge Mount retrofits your Fender 5-hole mount bridge on your 4-string bass using the two outer holes and the center hole."

I think that means it would work with the Gotoh route?

The Gotoh 201 which Warmoth sell with the standard 3/4" (19mm) string spacing. It features stock Fender mounting holes and is adjustable for string height and intonation.

The Hipshot A come in a variety of options the .750 spacing is the same as 3/4" and the mounting may be similar.

There is also a Fender mount option.

I am not a bass player so the above is best effort.

Thanks, that helps.

I'm starting to like the KickAss option mentioned above. I assume this is compatible with Warmoth's Bad Ass III route?

Sorry if this is obvious.

No the Kickass does not mount on a Badass III rout.  The Badass uses three screw mounts and the Kickass the more typical 5.

That means the Kickass needs a standard Fender mount which is similar to the rout Warmoth does for the Gotoh 201 for classic P and J style mounts.

Kickass dimensions.

So while the Kickass may be Hipshots answer to being Badass, they have done  a better job to make it mount via standard P and J holes.  One reviewer on their site said he put one on his Jazz Bass and used the original screws even though the Kickass ships with new ones.

I said I am not a bass player, though I do dabble. Now I have a hankering to build a J Bass.
