Autographs on guitars

I've been wondering a bit.. Would it in any way be possible to preserve an autograph on a guitar under layers of finish? I'd love to have Petrucci sign my guitar, but I don't want to just let the guitar hang on the wall nor do I want it to fade away.

I've seen clearly that decals work fine to put on a guitar, but that's when the guitar isn't finished. Otherwise it would be possible to put a blank decal over the autograph and then do the finish.

Any ideas from you finishing masters?

take wood. Put a finish like the one the guitar has on it.

Take a marker. Put your John Hancock on there.

Now try different topcoats. I think a sealer would help, too.

Sounds like a good project for when money starts pouring in  :hello2: I guess I'll have to learn how to finish a guitar then aswel  :toothy12:
