are the frets and nut that come with warmoth neck ready to use ?

Ok, you're going to get replies coming down the pipe here saying that the frets are going to need a little work to get the finish off, leveling etc... My experience is this. I've had 2 necks so far and both have had 6105 Stainless frets and have been finished with their satin finish. As soon as I started playing, the satin finish started to flake off of the frets. Any kind of string bending will rub the satin finish right off. I never had any fretwork done at all and I haven't noticed anything strange. Now, that's not to say that some of the replies that will come to this thread are wrong, just that this is my experience so far. The guys around this forum are very knowledgeable about these things so you'd be well off taking what they say as solid advice. Just saying that I've done nothing except build and play and I'm quite happy with my frets.

I got SS6150 frets on my Strat build, and was delighted that a low action was achieved without needing any fret work at all. I did widen and lower the nut slots though.

I too have been lucky with both of my necks.  One with SS6105 and the other with SS6150.  Neither fretboard had/has a finish.  The ends are a bit sharper than I'd prefer, but I'm quite cheap, so I'd rather deal with it than hire out.
Your mileage may vary.

In my experience over 10 warmoth necks is:

Frets yes
Nut no

The Nut is very easy to shape and is pretty personal.  It's not a big deal to tweak it.

Out of 16 necks all were great out of the box, except one.
On some I've rounded the ends and polished them myself, more to do yet.
Otherwise all good as is.
Some necks I have, don't even need to be rounded off thou.  :icon_scratch:

I usually get SS Frets and Graph Tech Nut :icon_thumright:
Nuts come cut at a standard cut.
So depends on your setup / string size etc if you need that adjusted.

The one that wasn't was a Maple / Maple neck, that had just one fret (the 7th or 8th) a touch high.
Nothing serious here.

Very happy customer here.  :headbang:
Still a good idea to get a full setup by a pro, then you'll have a truly wonderful guitar  :party07:

Remember Warmoth are a Parts supplier ...... the rest is up to you  :icon_biggrin:

I've only had one neck so far - SS6100 frets. They were fine. For me, a little sharp on the ends so I'll get that sorted at some point. It was a satin finish maple neck, so I got finish on the frets. I just masked off the neck and polished it off with steel wool - about half an hours work.

It was completely playable right off the bat with my preferred action. However, I had a sitar effect on the top two strings and I wasn't sure if maybe the first fret was a little high. I took it to have a fret dress, but the guy said they were fine - turns out the nut was low. This was a Floyd Rose nut - Warmoth did the prep and cut the shelf. It seems they cut it quite deep - but these are the biggest frets, so for smaller frets it may have been just right. Personally I'd much rather have the shelf a bit too deep than a bit too shallow because it is far, far easier to add a couple of these shims into the shelf than it is to try and cut the shelf deeper and keep it perfectly flat.

I do think I'll get the ends rolled off a little bit though, they really are quite sharp. Other than that, perfect.

or do i need to adjust them and crown the frets ??

It depends on how good you want them. They only install the frets and bevel them, they don't level/crown/dress/polish them.

That said, it's a brand-spanking new fretboard so they go in pretty level to start with, and the fret wire is very consistent. So, it's absolutely a usable neck as delivered. Many guys do nothing to them for a year or longer, depending on their usage patterns and the fret material.

However, if you want them absolutely level with the ends dressed, they need attention. It allows closer action if you're interested in that (not everyone is), and more comfortable play.

thanks a lot for the responses every one,i still haven't assembled the guitar yet but depending on your answers i think i will keep it the way it is until a certain  problem appears (i hope none do).
