Just bought it, awaiting delivery. I get a free upgrade to X1 in December. Session drummer 3 looks to have some pretty good sounds and I'm looking forward to seeing what the specific vocal strip and drum strip can do.
Right on. I loaded my computer up last night before a gig and though I didn't have time to play with it, the new interface looks awesome! I'll get to mess around with it tonight. Yeah, it's nice to get that free up grade as a bonus.
Got to play around with Session Drummer 3 last night...wow. That is a pretty amazing app. Speed is everything to me for the projects I do so I can see light at the end of the tunnel for producing a quality drum track at a good clip. (No pun intended).
First impressions -
Wow...
Sound quality from Session Drummer 3 & Z3TA+ is superb. SD3 sounds better than EZ Drummer, to me.
It does seem very CPU hungry cf my old Tracktion2 DAW. There seems to be some lag on midi keyboard input that I need to fine tune out (hopefully).
A lot more exploring to do...!
I used to use the original Cakewalk Pro Audio sequencer (Started using version 6, used up to version 9). Boy does this bring back memories...
Never made the jump to Sonar though, because at the time (late 90's), Cubase was the hands down winner and I made the switch. Never made it back, running Cubase 5 now and Sonar seems alien and strange to me.
I originally used Creamware Tripledat software and card in the late 90s if anyone remembers that one. Very formidable for its time. Did some great recordings with it. Funny how an old recording program can be like an old friend.
Sonar X1 looks to be quite different to the old Sonar stuff, so if there's a demo version around I'll definitely be giving it a go. Will have to work hard to prise me away from my beloved Cubase though
Had to upgrade my PC to cope with the CPU demands of Sonar but now running well. The supplied instruments in Producer Edition are superb. Dimension Pro has some very convincing strings that I'm writing with at the mo'. Good sound fx, too! Way way better than Steinberg Hypersonic I had before.
I find that Sonor runs daaaayyyyssss smoother on my system than Cubase ever did.
Cubase constantly crashed my system. I haven't had that experience with Sonor but once or twice in the last couple of years, and not at all since upgrading to 8 from 6.
