just a quick question. Does anyone have any pictures of the gold frets on a guitar?  :toothy10:

here's a link to the latest gold fret neck on the forum (there's at least a half a dozen)

Here's a couple of my latest neck...

Gold 6100s against an ebony board on a koa neck. They're not dressed or polished yet, but that's not going to change their color. The gold isn't as dramatic as real gold, but they do blend in nicely if you have a complementary colored body. It's a subtle enhancement in appearance, but they're supposed to be nearly as hard as stainless so I'm hoping after polishing that they'll be just as smooth.

Man, that's purtier than I figured it'd be. Looking at that pic though I think I'd be more inclined to match it against the wood tones and not whether or not the rest of the guitar is gold hardware. Shame black is just a coating and wouldn't be durable (ceramic frets anyone?)

actually that would be a great idea if you wanted a strait radius. you'd need diamond files to dress them but i think it would have great energy transfer to the fretboard

In this case, it'll match most of the wood and all the hardware. Normally, against ebony I'd want stainless steel, but the "gold" is nearly as hard and polishes up as smooth, so no loss.

cheers for those pics! they look awesome, i'll probably go with the 6105's when i get round to ordering something!  :laughing7:

Its making me rethink black hardware on korina/wenge/ebony. Gold does look nice with brown wood tones.

It's a match made in heaven. But, there has been some bad gold hardware in the past that wears much too fast, and even the good stuff can suffer from some people's body chemistry. I think that's why some people don't like it. It's not that it doesn't look good, it's just that they think it's going to look bad before its time. The nice thing about the gold frets is it's not plating - that's the color of the metal. It'll always be that color, even as it wears.

These are gold 6105's on a dinky P Warmoth bass. Initially this size fret wasn't offered in gold. I love the way they look.
