I played my SD30 again tonight and was reminded why I can't sell it. It is simply the most fun and toneful amp I've ever played. No OD pedals required. But I still need something to run in front of my other amp - or for any given situation where I have to use back line.
On the OD front, the JHS Moonshine will be the 6th pedal to arrive in a 2 week period arrived and I was prepared to print out the return label immediately after testing it.
This things just blew my hair back. This is the first time I've loved an overdrive and I've had tons run through my hands sparing no expense.
This sounds and feels nothing like the various TS pedals I've run before. It's just massive sounding and very dynamic. Sounds just amazing for edge of breakup tones - thick and juicy with no harsh sizzle. Things gains up really quick and sounds great! I'm keeping the SL Drive on the board as a goose for the JHS, but I may just free up the space. Crazy crazy. I'm getting Mayer styled tones from my neck pickup and creamy chunk from the bridge. Perfect amount of midrange, too. Makes me wish I had a second to use as a 3rd channel, but the SL should push it nicely.
Pics soon!
I played it through my own hand built AB763 variant and the Budda. Loved em both and just melted right into the front end of each. Feels like a channel, where the SL Drive made everything smaller once it was engaged. I really didn't want to like this pedal.
