So, x-mas time. Felt like making something personal for my nephew.
I have an army trunk given to me as a child by a family friend, and wanted to make another, trying to get the same mojo.
Walnut and ash. Glued and nailed. No joinery otherwise. About 8x12x20.
I love hand-crafted..., well anything! You can't beat a pair of human hands combined with a human mind, making something with a purpose, from the human heart. Nicely done!
Really nice work! I'm certain this will become a prized possession. It's always nice to give people woodworking stuff, because they not only appreciate it but hang on to it.

Based on the size of the screwdriver and tape dispenser, that looks like it might be a pretty tight fit. How old did you say he was, and is he small for his age? :icon_scratch:
(I didn't see no breathing holes, neither) :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:
Just finished building another project for my wife. Pics tomorrow, promise.
Had to change my design part way through because the concealed barrel hinges from lee valley (which I still love) broke as I was installing a part. So the fold down flap in front is now a solid wall. Live and learn. Should have tightened the set screw before installing the other side...
Almost done. Need to add the latch to the top, and maybe magnets to keep the doors closed.
Padouk, Hickory (which I'd never worked with but quite like) and Maple NOS.
Joinery with square cut nails. Bevel on the bottom to prevent nails from scratching what it's put on.
Had to change my design a little bit - I wanted the front to fold flat with the bottom, but the hinges broke.
