Go to imdb.com and look up This is Spinal Tap.  Look at the number of rating stars it has, and laugh.  :laughing7:

Did you notice that they budgeted $2.5M to make it, and as of 2000 (16 years later) the film had only grossed $188,751? That can't be right. Seems like everyone I've ever met has seen the flick. It's a cult classic.

edit: corrected math

Either that, or they don't count rentals the same way they do actual sales or theater tickets. The movie and music industries are both pretty creative about how they do their accounting. Shamefully so.

Sort of related....  I heard one of the actors from Spinal Tap telling a story on the radio recently.  I don't remember how it went exactly, but he was in a taxi cab with some burnout driver.  Somehow the driver asked him what he was working on, and the actor replied that he helped with the movie Spinal Tap.  The burnout driver replied that he was a huge "Tap" fan from before they got famous with the movie.

That's freaking hilarious.

That reminds me of that part in Being John Malkovich where the cab driver says "Hey you're John Maplethorpe!  You were great in that jewel thief movie."

Malkovich: "I never played a jewel thief."

Cab driver: "Nah, it was you."
