1 piece poplar body; poplar isn't the prettiest of woods by 'exotic' standards, but it is a superb 'canvas' to woodburn on. This is going kind of in the opposite direction from most of my projects in that the plan is to make it kind of low-tech, not-pretty-but-pretty cool...satin oil finish, bocote-on-bocote neck, anodized aluminum pickguard (gold), old hardware, antiquity p-ups, and black plastic parts...kind of an ugly duckling who can nonetheless really shake 'em on down, dig?

I'm loving it! You must have the patience of a saint! And that neck... what a get!

Totally digging it, but...I need to see the gold anodized aluminum pickguard.  Sounds like a sore thumb, but I am frequently surprised at how awesome some components look when they seem odd in their written description. And +1 on the neck.  Very, very cool.

Excellent job again Great Ape.

Ok, I'm thinking now that "Greg" is a front for a Chinese sweatshop of about 30 artists.

I know! See how he does that shading? He's like a human dot-matrix printer, only I doubt he makes 30,000 dots per minute. Probably only 20 or 30. That's gotta take forever.

HAH!! The patience of a saint, and the mind of an in-patient....pretty good combo, actually--I got those 30,000 12 year old chinese kids to sign on with me, didn't I?  :icon_jokercolor:

ewwwwww....cooties...
th

But very cool as always ape... :headbang1:

Neck is off the rails, like a trainwreck... :icon_thumright:

Off the rails, like a train wreck... like "off the hook" over the top, off the chain.....thumbs up.. :icon_thumright:

A train wreck "off the rails"...get it.. :icon_biggrin:

As soon as I saw  :glasses9:  .... ALIEN HONEY-BUG  (in huge writing) .... I knew that could ONLY be one person.
Yep ... I was right !!

So ya did have a 3rd neck, and she's a bloody beauty too.
Ya gunna love the Bocote  :icon_thumright:

Wouldn't it be hard to select a neck, before doing your great work to the bodies ?
Suppose that's why ya have a bunch of them.  :laughing7:

I can picture it with that pickguard too  :blob7:

Really fine-point tip on a solder iron? Or is that too hot?

-Just wondering watcha use to to do that...

I can actually understand the psychology of the "dotting" thing pretty well, if and only if it tends to occur best between about 2:30am to sunup. I think I could dot. I want every one of these things, but I am working a scheme to get me some Ape-burn in a modest way.

I use a heating unit made for woodburning, which allows me to regulate the heat. The ''pens'' have different shaped tips for different burns. I use mainly a scalpel-like tip for fine lines & detail, and a tip called a 'writer' for wider lines and dots. Progress pics will resume in a coupla days when I get back from Cape Cod and 3 days fly fishing for striped bass  :icon_thumright: :toothy10: :icon_thumright:
