That's the ticket, though I'm aiming the Evo 2 bridge and Evolution neck instead of the D Activators at this point.  What sort of problems arise with chrome-topped pickups like this?

Nothing, I just think they look painfully cheesy if they are not on a mirrored JEM, or possibly an '80s looking Ibanez or something. A Rosewood Strat is too classy for chromed plastic. If you really want chrome, do traditional covered humbuckers. (Though, personally, I'm no fan of those either. :blob7:)

Also, the chrome tops distract from the rest of the guitar. That's what your eye will be drawn to, because it's unusual.

See, that was my concern...but black rings chrome tops...  D:

You see?  I am capricious and indecisive!  Just not sure how black pickups with chrome rings would look; the Evo 2 and Evolution are black on black where the SDs in the body builder are black with chrome poles (The Chopper is likewise black on black).

I prefer all chrome here, including the pickups.  Joey has a mental disease called "lame" that doesn't allow him to appreciate important things like covered pickups and Telecasters.  Black hardware wouldn't be bad, but it's very late 80s, and it makes the whole guitar feel "dark" rather than "classy."  Did I mention not to listen to Joey?  Except when it comes to matters of wiring.  He is then to be considered a guru.

No, we're not talking about chrome covers. (Unless I misread?)
The OP wants these.

Maybe an excess of bitchin-ness! AWESOME.

I dont seem to have any issues with black hardware on my Rosewood tele.  In fact, you see more of the wood since the hardware doesn't stand out.

Can you post a picture of this guitar?

scroll to the bottom of page 2 to see it with rosewood pickup covers as well.

It's a great look and a great sound!  I ended up deciding to go with chrome bridge, tuner, and knobs with black pickup rings on all three and the chrome tops (not covers).  Ordered it yesterday so I should be seeing it in about six weeks.  I'll post pictures when its assembled.

Any advice on a finish for the rosewood?  I was thinking along the lines of some kind of oil just as a protectant.

I put 4 coats of pure tung oil on mine.  Would have put a few more, but I was too anxious to get it assembled.

I like the results I saw on an alder strat body from tung oil and your television sure looked great.  Does it tend to bring out the lighter tones in rosewood?  Is it difficult to apply correctly or unforgiving of minor errors?

I totally understand the impatience for assembly; I'm champing at the bit as it is!
