All,

What is the best way to practice to a cd or any form of media using all my effects. when I say all it is just a delay and ts808. Neither have a headphone jack. I would like to use the settings on my amp as well but not as important. is there something I can buy can I add a headphone jack to the amp that would cut the speaker and maintain the proper impedance to the amp as well ans not blow out my headphones. What do you guys use to learn new material in silence.

Thanks
Ken

When I was analog, I used the silent DI selection on my Weber Mass into a borrowed mixing board. Plugged the CD player into the board as well. Monitored the board with cans or IEMs.

I used to do the same thing TBurst describes, although my attenuator wasn't as nice as a Weber Mass. Those are nice parts. Also, if you don't have a mixer, you can get a helluva lotta functionality for very little money by going with something like this. There are a number of them in that form factor that are a little larger or smaller, which you can see here. They're probably not anything you'd want to take on the road, but for goofing around in the basement/bedroom venue, they're perfect.

Something else you might want to consider is a small modeller, such as one of these Behringer V-Amp 3 units.

Get a nice pile of different amps, cabinets and sfx, plus it has a useful variety of I/O including an input to feed it from a CD player/iPod/Phone/etc. They sound surprisingly good for the money. New, they're only $120 here, or I have one here with almost no hours on it at all I'd let go for $75 shipped.

You could also look into Line 6's Pod series, like one of these desktop units...

They've come down in price dramatically since their introduction, and can be had for $199 here. No aux input on that unit, though. But, it would preclude the need for an attentuator.

In both cases, you get a lot of sounds you don't currently have.

Just a thought.
