ADA MP-1 Preamp

I've had good luck with Reverb.com if it's priced right. Cheaper than ebay and paypal (though they do accept paypal). Not as big as ebay, but it's just musical gear, so I think that's better for casual "Oh crap, I didn't know I needed one of those."  Ebay is so big you need to know kinda what you're looking for.

Tempting, but I would just send it in to Fractal to model, then sell it upon return.

Are they looking for one to model?

Not that I am aware of, but it is one I have requested. Nothing better for 90s hair rock.

Ah, I see.

Let me know if you change your mind. Open to offers. :)

You're definitely right though, these things are pretty great.

Several people have been requesting that unit be added to the Axe, but it hasn't been done yet. It's not like they're rare or expensive, and he has Dumbles and other esoterics in there so that's probably not a consideration anyway. There must be some other reason he doesn't want to do it.

Maybe he's sitting on a pile of 'em and isn't ready to crash the market?

Hehe! Yeah, maybe, but I tend to doubt it. I suspect there's nothing the unit can do that can't already be done with the existing firmware, so it would be a waste of time, effort and EEPROM space. Besides, who needs a model of an emulator? It would be like making a margarine substitute.

I wouldn't call the MP-1 an emulator! It's a preamp, like any amp's pre, but with an onboard multi effects. To call it an emulator, though, is to suggest that it's trying to copy something previously available.

It's an amp! Two channels, tube and solid state tech, and a set of onboard effects. Run it into a power amp, it's great!

I was joking (as usual) and Cagey is probably close. The MP-1 is a nice high gain tube preamp with a respected place in history. Whether that stands out when you already of models of the handful of similar amps it was trying to emulate is a different story. But i suspect its a combination of hat, plus it sounds like this cat might have some personal distaste for the MP1, maybe he feels its like being asked to clown a Sundown. I heard one of those that sounded like a darker voiced Mk III. Interesting amp, but i doubt you'll  see a Sundown model anytime soon, simply because its not on most folks radar, and just doesnt get much respect.

Ok, let's say it's not an emulator. Let's call it a preamp/multi-effects unit. The Axe is a preamp/multi-effects unit. Should one of the Axe Fx preamp/multi-effects settings be a preamp/multi-effect box? Seems a bit redundant, plus it's highly unlikely any of the effects in the MP-1 are anywhere near as good as those in the Axe already.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not trying to disrespect the MP-1. I'm sure it's a fine unit with a lot of utility that somebody could put to good use. I'm just not sure there's anything so unique about it that it needs reproduction.

I agree, just haven't been able to hit on the right combination. Maybe do a Tone-Match of it.

Who am I kidding, I finally got to FW 16.X last month and haven't finished tweaking, and FW 17.X is up. (Really enjoyed FW 12.X and was playing out alot so I really didn't keep up for quite a while. I better get going as it apperas starting Feb I am playing out alot again.)

I wouldn't even lump the MP-1 as a multi effect unit.
The only "effects" it ever had was compression on the solid state side, and a miminal chorus.
Otherwise, it's an all analog signal path solid state/tube preamp.  The digital end of things in there is only for memory/recall of settings, like your own personal butler to change the knobs on your amp.

I was endorsed by ADA for 7 years in the early/mid 90's and am still friends with folks who used to work there, and was fortunate enough to be asked to be a beta tester for the MP-2, Microcab, Ampulator, and the Rocket amps which never really saw the light of day.

Matt Bachi who wrote some of the software, and did the EMB wah design which was incorporated into the MP-2 is now living in France, and re-launching a newere version of his wah.  He can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/EmbAudio

If my 25 year old MP-1 is a multi-effects unit, can someone show me where all the other effects are???  It plugged into my 50/50 tube power amp is still the best amp setup I've ever owned/played.  I wouldn't consider it high-gain either, but it'll get you enough and the solid state clean channel was one of those "why the hell didn't they think of that before?" kinda things.  Bump for a good deal, as I already have a spare MP-1 in the closet

I wish I could buy it just for sentimental reasons - I have about 6 empty rack spaces on my recording desk lol.  I bought an MP1 in the summer or 91 after saving money cutting grass and washing cars.  I had been playing guitar for about 3 years at the time and had no clue as to what I had in my hands.  Really wanted that split cab, stereo setup with the vertical 2x12s!  Ah the 90s!!  :party07:
