active pups: battery low ?

I'm no "kid", and since active pickups do not sound better than passives, there is no justification for dealing with batteries in a guitar.

That is of course if sound is the only factor. I wanted an EMG route because I think it's a much cleaner layout. With that route, my pickup options are pretty limited. So, I thought the EMG would sound better than the Lace pickups. Maybe they do - maybe they don't but a battery is really not a big deal.  You can argue that I should have gotten a regular single coil route, but for me, the esthetics of the guitar were important enough for me to limit my pickup choices.

You could have just had someone make you a set of singles. That's what I did.

And since sometimes passive pickups do not sound better than actives, there's no justification for not having a battery in a guitar.  :icon_jokercolor:

And regarding another comment that was made; who the hell uses batteries in their pedals? I use a good power supply for mine, and so does everyone else I know.

I'm with you, I do prefer a good power supply, but the use of batteries ensure the only ground path is through the guitar cable.  If theoretical ground loops keep you up at night, batteries offer piece of mind.  Eric Johnson uses batteries, then again he can tell the difference between battery brands and newness of said brands.  Can't argue with results.

Isn't that why isolated power supplies came to popularity a few years ago?

One advantage of batteries, however, is that the power is perfectly clean. There will never be ripple or alternating current. Then again, it is not difficult to regulate and filter less than 200mA at 9.6VDC.

It's a valid topic of discussion.

Some people like to declare their opinions as fact, however, when they are only personal opinions.
There are indeed justifications for the use of batteries in guitars. You don't have to like them, or use them, but you can definitely justify their use in various situations for various reasons. :dontknow:

Well since you're no "kid", I assume that you realize your statement does lack "maturity"?

What sounds better is purely a personal opinion and means nothing. I have passives in some guitars and EMGs in others. My EMG guitars get more play time, hands down. So does that mean EMGs are better and passives are worse? Or does it mean that I prefer EMGs where you prefer passive?

Yes man, all true but a question naturally arises: is in topic?
We'll finish talking about Alessadro Volta...

Batteries are for flashlights, not guitars.

Haha i think there might be a way where you can use Batteries for guitar.  :glasses9:

Yeah, get one of those guitars with illuminated LED fretboard dots and combine flashlight and guitar in one convenient package.  :icon_jokercolor:

If I had a nickel for everytime I loaned a 9v battery to another part of the signal chain of a guy that wouldn't dare have one in his guitar, I could buy a 9v battery.

Should never loan out 9v batteries, period. And why would you even have them to loan out? Anybody asks me for a 9v battery, I ask them for a $20 bill.

Somebody who's depending on the damned things shows up without them, then they're off the program.
