I have a mahogany baritone conversion Iceman that I made back in 2009. I rarely played it because it would never stay in tune (although I figured that part out). Anyway, I think it will get more play if I put a standard neck on it.
If anyone saw my "Irons in the Fire" thread (http://unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=25071.0), I had picked up a birdseye maple neck to put on the Iceman. I also got a swamp ash WGD body to replace the black korina body of my current WGD, as the thing weighed a ton. What ended up happening is that the birdseye maple neck was a perfect match to the swamp ash WGD body. This was never intended, but those two are definitely going together.
I was going to use a Strat neck I have (canary, with macassar ebony fingerboard; Wizard profile), cut the Strat headstock into an Ibanez shape, and use it on the Iceman. But there was a problem.
I had this awesome neck plate DangerousR6 made for the Iceman when it was a baritone. It was the "Abominable Iceman." :headbang1: That name was very fitting for a baritone. But the name doesn't really work with the standard canary neck. For that matter, it doesn't really work with birdseye maple, either (sorry, Doug...I hope you don't hate me. ).
But what does seem to work is the neck I took off of the black korina WGD. It is wenge with a macassar ebony fretboard. The grain markings in the fretboard almost look like blood drops and streaks. Then there's the whole 12th fret skull and crossbones thing.
Abominable, indeed. :laughing7:
On a different note, the neck has a Floyd Rose nut shelf. Allparts used to sell Ebanol nuts to convert these to a standard nut. They seem to be discontinued. Does anyone else know where to find the Ebanol nuts? Google was no help.
