A suggestion for the forum

This is a suggestion for this site rather than for Warmoth, and let me know if there is already something like this here that I'm just not seeing, but there should be a forum/thread category for posting our recordings.  It would just be really cool to hear what everyone is working on, even if you're just recording a classic rock solo you've just learned or whatever.  I think it would be cool to be able to go to one spot and listen to a large variety of Warmoth guitars in action.

It really would be the ultimate testimonial of Warmoth products when you think about it.

I think this was sort of suggested before, but wasn't done due to lack of interest - or just because Gregg didn't feel it was needed. Not sure. But I remember when they added the function to and sound clips to posts that there was some talk of having a forum for clips/recordings. They just added the ability and suggested that people include sound clips with their completed build topics. Which very few people did.

Well geez guys, why aren't people posting their clips?  Aside from showing people how your Warmoth sounds, recording whatever it is you're working on and having people listen to it is a great way to get feedback about what you're doing.  Especially if you've been working really hard on a song.  Positive feedback from other players is a major confidence booster and it motivates you to practice more.

because 90% of the people here can't play - they just make wall art :laughing7:

I really think that most people don't have the equipment to make recordings.

I have plenty of recordings but almost none have any electric guitar, let alone my W!

I do really wish we had a sound clips section though. Posting clips in your build thread is great for demonstrating what a particular geetar can do, but what if you want to show off / discuss a SONG, not the guitar? I think it would be nice to have a section where we can just share whatever we are working on music-wise at the moment.

That's a good idea, Nathan.  I've posted a couple clips but they were just noodling.  Isn't there a feed somewhere of all the clips posted to the forum?

That's exactly what I am proposing.  A section for people who just want to discuss stuff they've recorded for any reason, not just "this is what my build sounds like".

And come on guys, it's not that hard to record yourself.  It doesn't have to be a good recording, just good enough that we can hear what you're playing.  I mean geez, I was recording long ago with line-in sampling by sticking a $20 mic directly into my computer and using Audiograbber (free software) to record it.  Now I have a Tascam and Cubase, and that didn't cost me very much (I think I got it for $100).  You could even use one of those little tape recorders and run a cord from the headphone jack into the back of your computer and do a line in recording of that with Audiograbber.  I converted a bunch of my mom's vinyl collection to digital using that technique, it's really easy and it cost me like $5 for the cord.  You can even mix stuff for free by combining Audiograbber and Audacity... a bunch of my high school students do that with their garage bands.

I will gladly write up a tutorial on easy and cheap home recording if anyone is interested.  Anything to encourage people to record themselves.  I think it would be good for all of us to have a section for this that people participated in.

only problem with it is it only shows clips that were uploaded to this site.
