So, I can't delete this topic, but I can post a kitten instead -UWModerator

It's probably already been Reported to Moderator, they just haven't cleaned out the forum yet.

Notice the "Report to Moderator" tab at the very bottom of each message?  :icon_thumright:

There were three posts from these guys yesterday. I reported to mods. This one must of snuck by.

In the past  Eric Wyliie asked us not to respond to the spam posts.  That might be why the new mod can't easily get this one deleted.

Not as new as you think  :icon_thumright:

Big-Brother has been watching closer and longer than we all suspected.  :icon_jokercolor:

Once there are replies on a thread, it's harder to remove the post. I have perma-banned the Ugg peddler, and also blocked out a particularly bad block of IPs that seem to be the source for this recent wave of canned meat product.

I guess I'll allow the kitten mod :)

So if I a want to report more than one thread for spam to moderators I'll have to wait at least 180 seconds between reports because of anti-spam measures on the spam reports ...  :icon_scratch:

I'll suggest you set the kittens loose instead.

We have implemented new Captcha (and a couple of other things) to hopefully make this recent wave of spamming stop (or at least slow down). You guys certainly are good at flagging the spam right away (and thus killing my inbox).

Thanks!

:dontknow:
Nope   that didn't seem to work either.

There are about 5 at present.
The only good thing is I can't read that language .......  :laughing7:

Being in Australia I'm on here at the times you guy in the USA are asleep (well some of you)
There will be me and may-be a couple of others, and a bunch of spamers.
You can pick them real easy, by there forum names (again in a language I have no idea about)
There are thousands still in the Members list.

I know this is a hassle for the W Mods.
But honestly I've never seen anywhere else like it.

Try a simple Q about guitars or alike ....... That will stump them with there Fluffy toys / Runners / Sex Pills etc etc

Yea - like "how many tuners on a 7 string guitar" or "Is a Les Paul light or heavy"  :)

SMF (the forum software) has a good set of permission flags available to the administrator that would restrict freshly minted members from doing certain things at all, or not without review. Rather than let a new member do anything, the default permission set could be configured so that they may not create new topics, or respond to topics without review, etc. That would fix the easily gamed captchas and trial questions. Once a new member shows (s)he's not a bot, those flags can be reset so they have the same profile as a member in good standing.

Captchas aren't easily gamed; it's just that we didn't have one on sign up. There's one on there now, which will stop them from signing up in the first place in future. All that needs to be dealt with is the huge number of zero-post accounts that will eventually be used to create spam threads. I think you're on to sonething though - no new threads until you've got 25 posts under your belt, and the first 5 posts or so require manual approval.

A forum I joined recently had an "introductions" forum. New members could post in there, only new threads or responses to threads they had started themselves. The thread just needed to be a quick "hello,, I'm not a spammer", and you gave a bit of an introduction. I got a bit carried away on mine and told my life story. Anyway then a moderator just goes through the folder and approves people that are obviously genuine. Never seen a single spam post on that forum.

Thanks UW mods  :icon_thumright:

That seems much better.  :toothy10:

Thank you so much, from me and many other regular's  :rock-on:
