Sweet mercy!  The more I play this rig, the more I fall in love.

For the first time I've fallen in love with single coil (bridge) rock tones.  I absolutely love the texture, clarity, and sparkle.  Lots of growl on the low strings, too.

This is the same rig from the Toto solo thread, just tweaked a bit.  I've got a nice lead tone and a few ideas worked out.  Need to write some bridge and chorus music, as well as mix the guitars and drums a bit more for good stereo imaging.  This is only the first and second halves of the verse rhythm guitar music.

Thank you, my good men.

Yes, the Gravity Storm in split mode. Going back to Dimarzio was a great move for me. Definitely an alignment in the things I’m hearing in my mind and the tone of the gear at the moment.

Here’s more than you wanted to know - sorry. Our baby is due soon and I’m raw from false alarms, so you’re getting the spoils of my anxiety!

I’m telling you - I was stuck in boutique hell, my friends!  I was spending ungodly sums of chinyen on transcontinental handwounds and never enjoyed them to the degree I’ve been enjoying these last two Dimarzios (Breed and GS).

For anyone who’s curious, they are a bit similar, but the Breed leans towards a more uncompressed tone, despite being a little hotter wind. The high notes are thinner and brighter, as well. It’s an amazing pickup overall.

The GS is a bit more compressed with a hint of the characteristic “awww” vowel tonality.  Just a tiny hint and this pickup is chewy, greasy, dynamic, and soulful!  It’s not overly compressed, though. Just enough to make for a fun ride. I love the way this pickup sustains. It’s lower in output than the Breed, but this is a lead player’s pickup.

I find I keep accidentally nailing pick harmonics on areas of the fretboard I haven’t before and the high notes are smooth and creamy with tons of harmonic overtones.

My guitar has a thin neck and a compound radius, so it’s relatively flat up top. While it’s very fast, I’m having to break some bad habits that I picked up on my past guitars and learn some new techniques for controlling string noise on strings that aren’t being picked during fast runs.  It’s a little tougher on this guitar, but it’s making me a better player haha.

So cool on the 'due soon' baby, Frank. Be sure to let us know when it happens.

Next on your list to try: DiMarzio Norton. Probably may all-round favorite DiMarzio humbucker.

Finish the song. Have the baby. Try the Norton.

Then report back.

Sage advice, my shreddy friend.  Sage advice!

I've updated the track quite a bit.  Mix is not done, so it's a bit bright.  Slapped on a quick master.  Will complete the bridge/solo/outro music and add additional guitar layers soon..Loving this little diddy. Learning to mix single coil bridge tones has been really fun.

Dudes.

I've been asked to show the guitars without the bass/drums/etc, so I did a bookend remix to accommodate that. Ended up loving it, so it stays!

Happy New Year, all!
