It's Saturday night and here's a quick peek at what is on my workbench.  Both basses are a bit off from the normal offerings.  K, folks.  What's different and do you like it?

Well, the Jazz is a 5 string with a pickguard ... which is an option I haven't seen on the website.  Top routed perhaps?

The Gecko is a 6 string ... and the body is perhaps 7/8 size?  Either that or those knobs are huge!

5 in-line tuners on a neck with a gorgeous fingerboard!  Is that Passive?  +1 on the pg.  What pups are in that?  I agree the knobs look large on the 6er - but that could be knob size OR just how they looks against black.  The maple neck looks good against the black, too  :icon_thumright:

Not sure what's different about the Gecko. Control layout?

True, and the pickup placement is different.  Compare that with the standard pickup placement for two ASB2-6 (a.k.a. EMG 45) pickups, here:

It isn't immediately obvious, given the reduced size of the Takeuchi bridge as compared with the Kahler bridge in the stock image (above).  However, if you measure from the neck pocket, it's easier to see.

Maple on black looks nice!  Don't give me any ideas... :)

Oh yeah - I almost forgot.  The Deluxe 5 neck only has 20 frets.  They're supposed to have 22 frets, correct?

Bingo.  The Deluxe 5 is essentially a Mexi 5.  Top rout and rear rout options.  The Gecko has custom pickup routs (1" closer to the bridge) and custom control routing.  Did all the scribblin' and cypherin' myself.!!

The Mexi 5 (if we can call it that) has a nice vintage feel to it.  I don't know if it's something I would build, but it sure looks nice.

It looks like vintage-style Jazz basses are coming back in style.  Carvin's new SB5000 is pretty similar to this one.

Still waiting to see the short scale basses and the 7/8 strat for sale! You guys have teased for too long on those.
