I can't even remember if I posted a NGD about my "new" MSA SuperSlide, a 12 -or-10 string "lap steel" guitar, though you'd need a mighty lap...
It's certainly the most famous instrument I've ever owned, having been first owned by Tommy White, the staff steel guitarist for the Grand Old Opry. It's been on national TV any number of times, though Mr. White seems to have neglected to send along the "talent." Here's another shot, with a few of my slides and steel guitar bars:
But - it came in a rectangular "gig" bag, suitable for some things but I've seen way too many disasters to ever NOT have... well, so I went poking around and found out that among all the expensive SKB and Gator "flight cases", their were also a bunch of GUN cases that would fit the bill. At least $50 cheaper, waterproof, shockproof, wheels on the end, and FSA-friendly flight locks and with the same kind of warranty -they'll replace the contents up to $1500. They had one exactly the right length to fit the MSA but I opted for a slightly longer one, to leave room for cords, stomps etc.
I can use the MSA foam + a piece of theirs, or just chuck the whole thing in there -
If you start pricing the really good guitar cases because you do have one of them hair-loom-type guitars, you'll find the cases can get pretty spectacular in their pricing, though it looks like Gator and SKB are just buying Pelicans and re-naming and re-pricing them.
Here's the guy who makes the MSA:
