2 and 4 position on a strat

What makes the 2 and 4 position on a strat so special? I know that they're not out of phase but what are they?

There are phase differences relative to the output waveforms of each pickup that allow some frequencies to see constructive interferences while others see destructive interferences. As a string vibrates, the greater the distance between two coils, the greater the phase difference between them, as they transduce the energy at different times.

What makes them "special" is the scooped midrange, which delivers a nice "quack" effect when playing clean, and a jangly tone when using overdrive distortion...

They are not out of phase electronically, but they are picking up different waveforms that are acoustically out of phase with eachother, so it is still out of phase. This is what scoops those mids out.

So let me ask this. Does a RWRP middle pickup effect the "quack" effect of these positions?

Positions 2 and 4 are humcancelling because the middle is RWRP. When any are used independently, there is no difference, other than a hotter bridge winding.
