Here's that burnishing video I teased a couple weeks ago....

I was also going to ask about the pros/cons of sanding along vs. across the grain. I've done it with the grain and it turns out great, so I'm curious about the advantages of going across the grain.

    Any advice for drilling holes?

All good advice on here already. I like to seat the neck, align the pickguard with that and the bridge, secure it firmly with painter's tape, and drill in the center of each hole (with tape around the bit to mark how deep to go). Then blow the sawdust out of the way, screw it down, and remove tape.

My new album "Get Wrecked" hits today!

Listened to 'em all on YT, really good stuff, thanks for posting them here. Nice way to start a rainy day.

Big news regarding Warmoth Soloist bodies...

Thanks for the head's up, Aaron! I can't wait to see the video and what's available when authorized. I played around with the builder + pickguard options and just wanted to pass along a note that there was no provision for a 24-fret pickup reposition in the soloist pickguard. Other than this...

Big news regarding Warmoth Soloist bodies...

Was that posted *by* Warmoth on FB page? I can't figure out whether it looks rear-routed or front-routed, can't see a channel for pickup wires.

Roasted Flame Maple Neck—Finish or Not?

+1 for leave it unfinished and burnish it; dings can be steamed out this way, partially or fully depending on the extent of the damage

    Favorite noiseless strat pickups ?

DiMarzio Injectors in bridge + neck, with a DiMarzio Area 67 in the middle. I found this combination in a Paul Gilbert loaded pickguard and really liked it.

A new video and a scalloped neck limited release!

I've had a couple of YJM strats, and the build quality was flawless. I liked both a lot, but ultimately got rid of each in favor of Warmoth partscasters. Preferences will vary a lot, but the things I didn't like so much about the YJM strat were, in no particular order: * only 21 frets * vintage...

ChatGPT - neck wood choices - Young’s modulus - gigapascals, GPa

That's a really interesting discussion. I wonder to what extent the differences in tone between various neck (shaft or fretboard) woods would be audible when playing through effects + amp, with other instruments and perhaps vocals? If the differences are audible in the mix, how much of the...

    More Watches

I found my Citizen Eco-Drive that hasn't been worn in 10 years, give or take. Yesterday I put it in the window for about 1 hour, right through sundown. Not a good charging session, but it started right up. Later in the evening it started advancing in 2-second jumps. Interesting response to low...

    More Watches

Interesting thread, I've got an old Citizen Eco-Drive and I wonder whether it would still work if I let it charge up in good light for a while? I really liked that watch, it was one of the last ones I wore before giving them up in favor of digital (which would handle the sweat of daily...

Big news regarding Warmoth Soloist bodies...

Not a great pic, but shows that a strat heel fits into an Ibanez RG with the old square heel, and the final few frets on an overhang that extends right up to the neck pickup are easily accessed.

Could also give 24 fret access like on the early RG/JEM models. Those necks bolted on just like a strat, and the lower horn was deep cut to allow easy access to the full 24 fret overhang. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and see how many of my wishes are granted.

Yes, the heel could be sculpted like the newer strats without sacrificing much in terms of compatibility, just need to move one screw hole. And avoid the modern construction neck if that makes you nervous.
