    Tube Preferences?

I agree that the EI's are nice if you get a non microphonic one, and preamp tubes in general have very long lifetimes...powertubes on the otherhand... I also wouldn't buy a +$100 telefunken or mullard, which is why I suggested sylvanias, although even at $100 a tube, you will go though more...

    Tube Preferences?

Well, I guess I'd rather take something like this shorter lasting tube than a slobtek or other Mike Matthews phony tungsol/mullard etc...: http://cgi.ebay.com/12AX7-SYLVANIA-VACUUM-RADIO-TUBE-NOS_W0QQitemZ370011968857QQihZ024QQcategoryZ73380QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    Tube Preferences?

I happen to like NOS tubes in general, even at their much higher price, their lifetimes are also generally much longer than new production tubes. That being said, you can buy NOS sylvanias and phillips all day long on Ebay for almost the same price as new production tubes. I really like...

OK, I see what you're saying now. The paddle comes to mind for some reason...

The stewmac Understring Radius Gauges are top notch

That will certainly work, but I would be able to measure the saddle dimension more precisely than the fret to string distance. Double check the math, it's fine  :toothy12: (measure twice, cut once)

a question for alfang or any other Van Halen gurus

EB still makes the Axis, at least as far as I know. The EVH name was dropped long ago when he went with Peavey, but the Axis is more or less the same guitar, other than the switch position and the neck profile might be slightly different.

Warmoth headstock 24 3/4" conversion neck length?

Does anyone know the length, from the end of the fretboard extension to the top of the headstock of this neck?

The stewmac Understring Radius Gauges are top notch

OK,  I did the math again... to make a 12"radius bridge into an 18.5" radius, (get some callipers) and grind the 3&4 sting sadles down 0.0146", and the 2&5 saddles down 0.0095”. This assumes a 0.4124" string spacing, or 2.062" E to E. You might want to confirm that the starting bridge is truly...

The stewmac Understring Radius Gauges are top notch

Well, maybe I'm just speaking more for myself...I usually have pretty high action though, or maybe I'm not that sensitive to action.. That being said, It certainly won't hurt to make the bridge the correct radius, especially if you can feel the difference.  I might just do it myself with my...

    Angled neck pocket...what angle?

    Thanks Gregg  :rock-on:

The stewmac Understring Radius Gauges are top notch

I've been wondering about the compound radius and a 12in radius bridge too, so I did the math...a 12 in radius will be 0.0152" higher at the middle than an 18.5" radius (if the circles meet at both E strings), which would mean ~0.0076" higher action at the 12 fret (ignoring neck curve). This is...

    Angled neck pocket...what angle?

Eh, the bridge would be as high as an ABR, so I guess the big angle is needed...still would like to know the values anyway...

    Angled neck pocket...what angle?

I notice there are 2 optional neck pockets...one for TOM bridges (big angle) and one for non recessed floyds (small angle)... does anyone know the actual angle of these two options? I'm asking, because I'm thinking about using a wraptail bridge that is fairly low profile, so it may not need the...
