    Distortion pedal inside guitar

Probably true, you'd need at least a 600mV peak to peak signal before you'd see any clipping at all, most pickups will give that kind of level in the initial attack, but decay pretty quickly. Still, as you say, cheap to try and might be an interesting effect for those looking for a very subtle...

    Distortion pedal inside guitar

Did you get one of those Black Ice devices yet?  If not, there's a much cheaper way of doing the same thing, 2 low voltage schottky diodes back to back in place of the tone control cap: http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/blackice.htm I think you'd need reasonably high output pickups for this to...

Swamp Ash Musiclander (56k danger, danger)

@Alfang. Cheers and yes, it does get played a lot.  It's funny, but building my own guitar has definitely inspired me to play more. @TroubledTreble. Thanks, my background's in electronic engineering, hence the tidy wiring.  I like the controls, I can twiddle either volume pot with my pinkie...

    My First Warmoth Build

Nice, very nice and by strange coincidence, I just posted pics of my completed Musiclander in the Misc Guitar gallery, spooky huh? Cheers - Rab.

Swamp Ash Musiclander (56k danger, danger)

My first Warmoth project and the first time I've built a guitar from scratch and it all went surprisingly well, even the wiring worked first time. Body: Swamp Ash Musiclander, grain filled, danish oil finish. Neck: Canary/Ebony, Warmoth headstock, SS frets, MOP dots, Graphite nut. Pickups...

    BlackHeart "Little Giant"

I think (and I'm sure C.B. will be able to correct if necessary) that class A amplifiers are always on, the valve is biased such that it is always conducting, but the valves don't draw full power in their quiescent state. Depending on the configuration, Class A amplifiers have a maximum...

    cabinet voicing

Just had another thought, the drivers in your cabinet probably roll off at 6-7kHz, your headphones probably go all the way to 20kHz,  maybe capacitor filtering is the way to go. I'll try and come up with something tonight. (Edit) Try this modified circuit: The 2.2uF cap with the 10ohm...

    cabinet voicing

Load's the opposite of impedance: low impedance = big current =  big load, high impedance = small current = small load.  Maybe the amplifier expects a minimum load, the circuit you linked to appears to be designed for a speaker, not headphones. I take it your headphones are the portable type if...

    cabinet voicing

Maybe a loading issue? Is there only one output?  If so, the cabinet will present a much greater load to the amp (4ohms, 8ohms etc) than the headphones (normally nearer 600ohms), maybe a loading resistor (8ohms or so) across the output would help. Cheers - Rab.

    Warmoth newbie, parts just arrived.

Hi folks. Bit of an update, tuners are installed in the neck, along with a custom truss rod cover: The cover's a reshaped Warmoth, covered in metal foil with a inkjet printed decal over the top. The body's been filled and oiled and the pickups and bridge are fitted: Just the wiring to do...

Adding more finish to a neck (headstock)

Hi Clint. From my experience building model cars, lacquer over urethane is a bad idea, most lacquer solvents are too aggressive to spray over anything except lacquers. The other thing to watch is the decal itself, a hot solvent will eat that too, stick to oil or water based. For a good, brush...

    Warmoth newbie, parts just arrived.

Hi Nathan. I'm in Bo'ness, on the Firth of Forth, a good bit south of you.  It's a nice area up there though, I'm very fond of Inverness and Elgin and I've spent a fair amount of time at RAF Kinloss. @stubhead. That's a nice looking guitar, I hope mine turns out that well, I know what you mean...

    Warmoth newbie, parts just arrived.

Oops, sorry about that, I'll make sure it's put to good use though, don't worry. I'm going for a natural finish, it's too nice a piece to cover with paint, grain fill with a dark filler to bring out the grain then either a light stain and oil or use an oil with some colouring in it, nothing too...

    Warmoth newbie, parts just arrived.

Thanks for the welcome guys. @Thepriebster: I've never seen a real Fender Swinger, but I liked the shape, a bit different from a Strat, without being too chaos, spiky, kill your daughters death metal. Hardware, vintage trem bridge from Warmoth, don't know who makes them and Gotoh SG38 Tuners...
