BTW, 59s, like all vintage PAF-types SD sells (Antiquites, Seths) come stock with long legs, but can be ordered from any authorized dealer with short legs (and other options) through the Shop Floor Custom program. These customizations are not as expensive as going full Custom Shop.
This may depend on the wood, but every guitar I've either built or worked on with wood screws going directly into the wood has eventually vibrated loose over time. I've repaired them, but there should be a more permanent solution than tiny wood screws.
Well, maybe not 'easier' but more elegant. I don't like the look of rings. And the way current pickups are made, the baseplates are all made to be suspended from rings. Wood screws don't hold over time, and make it difficult to adjust.
I used smaller machine screws into inserts drilled and super glued into the wood. No drilling of the pickup feet. But really, there still should be an easier way than this.
It is a ridiculous price for 2 brass bars. I did mine with a few brass inserts and machine screws that came with the pickups. Total cost: 30cents. I don't know if it sounds better than rings, but it certainly looks better to me. But there really needs to be a better mounting system for pickups...
Well, there isn't a pickup called the Antiquity Rails, but I'd try to persuade MJ to make one for me...the voice (and unpotted) of an Antiquity but with rails (and the black rails baseplate).
Thanks! I considered something 7/8ths but it would have to have 22 frets (24 are a no-go for...
Yeah, the Velocity has Custom Shop Seth Lovers. This Soloist has my favorite production set- Alnico II Pro in the neck, and Custom Custom in the bridge.
If I do change them out, and I am not sure I would, but if I do, I might get Custom Shop Antiquities...that are rails.
Gloss. I wasn't able to find a pic of it in satin, so I didn't want to take a chance. It has a padouk (scalloped) neck, and I can't believe how well it matches the paint.
