Hum only when the middle pickup is active...

I was thinking that it might be the type of wire that's responsible for the hum? I used clothed wire for all the ground connections... maybe I should've used shielded wire? Especially on the cable that goes to the output jack? And what about bad solder joints? But if there were any bad ones...

Hum only when the middle pickup is active...

I guess I haven't heard it before, because the neck pickup has a lot less highs than the mid or bridge pickups, but now I was able to hear a bit of a difference once I touch the strings, bridge or the pots... so I guess all pickups may have this problem. I just don't know what else there is to...

Hum only when the middle pickup is active...

Yes, all the bare wires are connected to the volume pot chassis. I also connected the tone pot, the claw ground cable and the jack ground cable to the volume pot. I checked the connections with a multimeter: Jack ground - Volume pot -> Beep Jack ground - Tone pot -> Beep Jack ground - Claw ->...

Hum only when the middle pickup is active...

I've put together a new HSS guitar with a DiMarzio 36th anniversary PAF and two Area 67 pickups. This wiring scheme was used: http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/default/files/diagrams/1h2virtualv5w1v1ppt_split_bridge.pdf It's a fairly simple circuit. Volume and a tone pot that only splits the PAF...

    Non-Recessed Floyd Rose Setup

I'm done with the setup now, but I won't be able to use my D-Tuna. Right now, I'm having a floating, instead of a flush mounted, Tremolo. Is the only viable way to lower the tremolo height the shimming of the outer 4 saddles, so that I can transform the standard 10" radius into the 16" radius I...

    Non-Recessed Floyd Rose Setup

I'll try to improve it further with the masking tape trick! Thanks again! I'm not a big DIY person, so your advice helped me a ton!

    Non-Recessed Floyd Rose Setup

I heeded DMRACO's advice and put some piece of cornflakes cardboard on the lower e-string sidewall of the pocket. Here's the result: http://i.imgur.com/7Xx5Gmv.jpg I guess it's still not 100% perfect, but it's not too bad, either. What do you think?

    Non-Recessed Floyd Rose Setup

Thanks again, guys! I've tried your approach double A to no avail. The neck fits the pocket so good that there is really no sideway motion possible. Maybe I had to use a bit more force, but I was a bit too scared for all the reasons you've mentioned above. I proceeded to try DMRACO's shimming...

    Non-Recessed Floyd Rose Setup

Wow, thanks for these helpful responses, guys! What kind of material should I use for the shim? I don't have any metal plates lying around and I'm not sure what else I could use... What about the dimensions? Should I cover a whole strip on the right side or is it enough to cover maybe 1/2 or...

    Non-Recessed Floyd Rose Setup

I've discovered another problem that may be related to the floyd rose. It's about the space between the two E-strings and the sides of the neck. Here's a pic of the strings near the locking nut: http://i.imgur.com/VZ8Gkbp.jpg And here's a pic at the neck/body transition...

    Non-Recessed Floyd Rose Setup

So far, I've only used recessed tremolos, but with my newest build I wanted to try out the non-recessed version. The neck, which I intended to use as a replacement for my Fender HSS strat with floyd rose, is made by USACG and it features a locking bridge along with the 10"-16" compound radius...

    Tailpiece Grounding

I've rewired the guitar and I've shielded the switch cavity and the pot cavity with copper foil, but I still haven't replaced the tailpiece ground cable. The noise is gone now. I'm not sure if I should have soldered some of the ground cables directly to the copper foil? After all, everything's...

    Tailpiece Grounding

I'm using shielded wire, not the standard shielded wire that Gibson and other guitar makers use, but it's still shielded wire and I've connected all shield to ground. The ohm rating between strings and the output jack housing measures about 14 ohm. Does that mean that my tailpiece ground wire...
