Has anybody tried installing a BOSS GK5-KIT-G6 MIDI guitar pickup?

Right, it is basically six humbuckers—one under each string—that go to an analog MUX, then an analog-to-digital converter, and finally down the serial cable to the GM-800; it does pitch-to-MIDI, as you suggest. Darn, it's bad that I'm the first, but hopefully it will work out OK. For Fishman...

Has anybody tried installing a BOSS GK5-KIT-G6 MIDI guitar pickup?

I have Nomad that I need to put together, and I have some pickup questions for you. BOSS has new MIDI pickups using TRS serial cables, where one can use them on a GM-800; this is their kit for permanent installation. This is the installation documentation. Has anybody tried to install one? Did...

How hard should it be to push TOM hardware into a guitar body?

(I have come back to working on my guitar again!) I have a Warmoth Nomad body that Warmoth drilled for a TOM bridge, and then finished.  However, I have Hipshot TOM hardware, and it doesn't quit fit. Should I use sandpaper wrapped around a pencil to expand the holes?  Then, how hard should I...

make a les paul sound like a Strat with humbuckers

How far from the bridge is the center of a Gibson H pickup vs. the center of a Fender H pickup?  That distance divided by the associated string length would be an interesting percentage to compare.  (And the same would hold for the neck pickup, as well.) All of the above arguments about...

Meanwhile, at Warmoth...Married Man's Guide to Buying a New Guitar

This reminds me of when I had a gold iPhone 6S, and I wanted to get a 7 without my GF realizing that I had done that, so I got another gold one.  Sadly, she eventually noticed, but this was months after the fact, and I was laughing so hard that she was probably ashamed for being inattentive, and...

    Shielding wire bundles?

Yes, they're active (EMG 81TWX, the dual-mode "X" pickups)!  OK, if everybody says that there is no reason to shield them, I won't!  :headbanging: The main reason that I use EMGs is that inside the pickup itself is an op-amp, and this takes the signal from the coils and gives it a huge boost...

    Shielding wire bundles?

I'm wiring some EMG pickups, and they come with a modular system with wire bundles.  They didn't shield the wire bundles (wrap them in a conductor that's tied to ground).  So, I have four choices: Just wire everything with no shielding Put Cu tape inside the body Put conductive paint inside...

Meanwhile, at Warmoth....Chechen necks have arrived!

I called and asked if they'd do an Explorer neck, but they said that their only remaining material could make a linear neck (Stratocaster or Telecaster).  It might not be too late for some of you.... I hope that they had fun with their "chechen" experiment, and will do things like that on a...

    Something weird

Why is it just one string, the D string? I'd call the technical support line of your pickup company and see what they think, this is odd.  It doesn't sound like you've flipped the phase, because the other five strings are fine. What kind of pickups are these, in passing?

    24 3/4 conversion strat

Well said.  While there are a few monster guitarists playing on their right thigh (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nux5LzzxT3o), it's a TERRIBLE ERGONOMIC CATASTROPHE in general, and should never be done. The key piece of equipment is a stool.  There are purpose-built stools for guitar, but I...

Seeking advice on a nut for strings 8--38 on a Nomad neck

I also expect to have a Plek machine process my stainless frets, would that be a good way to cut the nut as well?  (Just because it can cut a nut doesn't mean that it does a good job... I have no idea.) http://www.plek.com/en_US/produkte/plek-station/softwarefunktionen/

Seeking advice on a nut for strings 8--38 on a Nomad neck

I'm trying to figure out what to do for the nut on my Nomad, where this guitar will have a fixed TOM bridge (no Floyd). I play with 8's (8, 11, 14, 22, 30, 38), and don't expect to change (except in trivial ways, where the 11 might change to a 10.5, etc.). So, should the slots be cut to the...

I'd like to see a headless guitar option & sale of the associated parts

The headless guitar is mostly about being compact:  The headstock on a regular guitar is really wasted space, and the body is much longer than it needs to be (unless the bridge is near the edge [except perhaps for ergonomic reasons]).  So, some people want a compact guitar with a 25.5" scale...

I'd like to see a headless guitar option & sale of the associated parts

I think that there is no question that you are right!  But I think that there isn't more that they can do in the Fender space, as they've done it all... so, anything incremental will hopefully tap a reasonable market and create repeat customers. I admire them making a guitar like the Nomad: ...
