    Guitar Tech/Luthier recommendations?

In NYC, you want to go to 30th Street Guitars (actually located on W 27th St). You will get great work done there.

    Guitar Tech/Luthier recommendations?

In the Central Jersey area, not too far from NYC, try New Jersey Guitar & Bass Center on Amboy Ave in Edison. Jay is a Jedi Master of guitar setup and just an all around great guy who greets everyone with a warm smile. What I like most about going there is that you get to talk directly to the...

Wood/Finish question for my first build

Currently in the Warmoth showcase. Vintage Tint Gloss is the finish. Vintage Tint Satin might get you close.

    Humidifiers

I just began researching small humidifiers and I'm not finding many that have a set feature for maintaining a target humidity percentage. They're mostly either on or off. I was surprised because *all* de-humidifiers cycle on and off based on a chosen humidity level. It seems weird to me that...

Drilling a hole in a hard finish?

Here's the scenario: I'm looking at a Velocity body which only has the option in the builder for Strat style controls. IE, 3 circular holes (volume, tone, tone) and a long thin rout for a 5 way blade switch. The build will have 2 humbuckers with no split coil or other fancy wiring. The positions...

    Burnishing Raw Necks

Thanks, Cagey. I was starting to lean towards giving up the devotion to a "classic" style for the sake of getting a raw neck. Your thoughts are helpful. And I was looking at Goncalo Alves.

    Burnishing Raw Necks

Can the polishing/burnishing treatment that Tonar does on his raw maple necks be done on Mahogany? I'm planning a Lester or SG type of build and was thinking of a classic mahogany neck. I've played a raw neck and couldn't believe how amazing it felt (It was a Rosewood neck short scale bass)...

TOM bridge & string through body: Pros? Cons?

Long time reader, soon to be builder here. I've seen a few string through bodies with tune-o-matic bridges in the gallery (eliminating the stop bar) and am wondering why some players/builders made that choice. I see that it eliminates the need for an angled neck pocket. Does that have something...

    "Neck Joint Stress"?

Thanks everyone!  I think I knew the answer but you have all confirmed it.

    "Neck Joint Stress"?

I'm new to the build-your-own world and have really enjoyed reading about all the successes that are related here (and hoping to have one of my own!).  With the collective experience on this board, I wonder if anybody can advise me on go/no go regarding a Tele body I see on Ebay.  The listing...

FS: Fender USA Telecaster Body - Light Blonde NITRO, Relic

Is this body still available?  And one question, if it is.  Is there a neck pickup rout under the pick guard?  Thanks.

    Grounding the tone pots?

    Thanks, Cagey!

    Grounding the tone pots?

Have an old 70's Strat and am putting new volume and tones pots in.  (The old one make a lot of noise when turning the knobs)    It will be wired very standard, 3 single coils, 5 way switch, no push/pull anything.  I'm relying on wiring diagrams I found online to put everything back together. ...

    Fret wire question

Is there a good rule of thumb about which size fret wire to choose based on playing style?  Specifically, what type of wire would facilitate a very string bendy style?  Think Hendrix or SRV soloing away.  And of course, is there a downside to having a guitar optimized for one thing?  We spend...

Neck/Nut/Bridge Probelm (Not sure which it is)

I want to get something like the Fender SRV signature model.  It's not boat neck thick, but it definitely falls more into G territory than any Strat I've picked up.  Feels good to me.
